Spain rewards good timing more than almost anywhere in Europe: the interior bakes in high summer while the coasts fill up, but the shoulder seasons deliver warm, sunny, uncrowded days for cities and beaches alike. Here's every month rated for weather, crowds and cost.

In Brief

When is the best time to visit Spain?

The best time to visit Spain is spring (April-June) and early autumn (September-October) - warm, sunny weather that's ideal for both cities and the coast, without the fierce July-August heat inland or the peak-summer crowds and prices. Madrid, Seville and the interior can top 35°C in high summer, while the Mediterranean coast is packed; the shoulder months give you the same sunshine with far more comfort. Winters are cool and quiet, and great value for city breaks.
