The Best Time to Visit Zurich

Zurich's summer is the one people do not expect: the lake and the river are clean enough to swim in, the city builds public bathing houses along both, and half of Zurich spends July floating down the Limmat. The rest of the year splits between Christmas-market winter, ski access, and the grey fog season nobody advertises.

In Brief

When is the best time to visit Zurich?

June to September is the best time to visit Zurich - warm days in the mid-20s°C, long evenings, and the lake and Limmat river warm enough to swim, which is the thing that makes a Zurich summer distinctive. December is the other strong window for Christmas markets and easy access to the Alps for skiing. March to May is pleasant with lower rates. Avoid October and November, when nebelmeer fog settles over the valleys for weeks.
