In Brief
Which luxury hotel in Majorca should I book?
Four Seasons Resort Mallorca at Formentor, in the €€€€ band, is the best all-round pick and the only Gran Luxe hotel here with a sandy beach a few steps from the door. It has kids clubs up to 17 and an adults-only pool, but it is 60 minutes from the airport and closes for winter. The Camp de Mar Hotel & Resort is the value pick: open all year, 45-square-metre rooms, a beach about five minutes away and rooms from 164 euro on its own site.
Key takeaways
- Sand within five minutes on foot: only Four Seasons Formentor, The Camp de Mar and Pure Salt Port Adriano
- Whole-hotel age limits: Pure Salt 18, Pleta de Mar 16, Can Ferrereta over 14, and Cap Rocat takes no children online
- Cap Rocat closes 15 November to 10 March, while The Camp de Mar keeps its outdoor pool open all year
- Five-star tourist tax: 4.40 euro a person a night from May to October and 1.10 euro from November, with under-16s free

Which one fits how you travel
Find the row that sounds like your trip. Every pick below names the traveller it is wrong for, so you can book on fit rather than on rank.

What the bands mean
No live rate check was run, so the bands are relative tiers built from what is published. The first is the hotel's class in the Consell de Mallorca register of tourist accommodation, which lists 100 active five-star properties on the island, 19 of them in the top Gran Luxe class. The second is the few rates the operators print themselves: The Camp de Mar shows rooms from 164 euro, Sant Francesc's booking engine showed from 293 euro for December, February and March dates, and Jumeirah's own 2026 announcement gives rates from 600 euro a night. Then add the Balearic sustainable tourism tax, read off the government's calculator on 3 October 2026. Five-star hotels pay 4 euro a person a night from 1 May to 31 October and 1 euro from 1 November to 30 April, plus 10 percent VAT, so 4.40 or 1.10 euro. Under-16s pay nothing and the tax halves from the ninth night. A couple staying seven nights in July pays 61.60 euro in tax alone.
- €€
- Larger five-star hotels in a town or resort, in the register's standard five-star class
- €€€
- Five-star boutique hotels of 27 to 93 rooms, most with an age limit, a rooftop pool or private-pool suites
- €€€€
- Gran Luxe, the top class in the Mallorca register, held by 19 of the island's 100 five-star properties
The 12 hotels, and who each one is wrong for
Walking times are to the nearest beach or cove, and the main square where the hotel is in a town. Walking times run to the nearest beach or cove, because on Majorca that is the question a five-star hotel most often fails, and to the main square where the hotel is in a town. Where a hotel publishes its own figure, that comes first. Otherwise the route is OpenStreetMap foot routing, with minutes worked out at 1.25 metres a second, and it is labelled as a road route rather than the hotel's figure. Castell Son Claret and Son Brull are country estates with no walkable beach, so their own distances are given instead, and the Pure Salt route was discarded because its published map point and the register's sit 1.2 km apart.

Palma old town
Sant Francesc Hotel Singular
€€€Rated 4.7 out of 5 on Google Maps from 614 reviews, as of October 2026A five-star on Plaça de Sant Francesc in the old town, with 32 rooms and 10 suites, a 200-square-metre roof terrace with a 30-square-metre pool and bar, and the Quadrat restaurant with an 89 euro tasting menu. It publishes the tourist tax on its booking engine: 4.40 euro a person a night.
- Walk to the nearest beach or cove, and the main square where the hotel is in a town
- 7 minutes (526 m) to Palma Cathedral and 17 minutes (1,272 m) to Platja de Can Pere Antoni, road route, not operator figure to the nearest beach or cove, and the main square where the hotel is in a town
- Right for
- A city break in Palma with a pool on the roof and the cathedral seven minutes away on foot.
- Wrong for
- Wrong for: Anyone who wants a beach holiday: the nearest sand is Palma's city beach at Can Pere Antoni, 17 minutes away.
- The catch
- The catch: Quadrat serves dinner only from Thursday to Monday, parking and airport transfers cost extra with no price published, and breakfast is not in the base rate. Its own booking engine showed no rooms for check-ins from 5 January to early February 2027.

Cap Enderrocat, Cala Blava
Cap Rocat

- Right for
- Couples who want swimming straight off the rocks and the most unusual building on the island, 25 minutes by car from Palma.
- Wrong for
- Wrong for: Families: the online booking takes no children, and the restaurants accept children only over 15.
- The catch
- The catch: It is closed from 15 November to 10 March, as its own booking engine states. There is no sand beach, the operator never publishes a room count or the tourist tax amount, and the non-refundable rate cannot be cancelled without a penalty.

Es Capdellà countryside
Castell Son Claret
€€€€Rated 4.7 out of 5 on Google Maps from 564 reviews, as of October 2026A five-star Grand Luxe castle hotel with 43 rooms on a 132-hectare estate reached by a 200-metre palm avenue, and a Leading Hotels of the World member. Sa Clastra holds one Michelin star in the 2026 guide, breakfast is in every rate and parking is free.
- Walk to the nearest beach or cove, and the main square where the hotel is in a town
- No beach on foot. The hotel is at km 1.7 on the Es Capdellà to Galilea road, and books sunbeds at Gran Folies Beach Club in Cala Llamp, Port d'Andratx, on 48 hours' notice, paid to the club to the nearest beach or cove, and the main square where the hotel is in a town
- Right for
- Food-led couples who want a country estate 30 minutes from the airport, with the star restaurant on site.
- Wrong for
- Wrong for: Families with children under 14 who want the spa or the star restaurant: both are reserved for guests aged 14 and over.
- The catch
- The catch: The pools are not heated: the private pools in the Pool Suites never are, and the main pool's temperature follows the weather. It says it operates seasonally without publishing the dates, Sa Clastra's menu is 205 euro, and its FAQ says the tourist tax may be charged separately even where an offer says taxes are included.

El Toro, by Port Adriano
Pure Salt Port Adriano

- Walk to the nearest beach or cove, and the main square where the hotel is in a town
- Hotel's own description: separated from Port Adriano marina by a small sandy beach. No walking figure published to the nearest beach or cove, and the main square where the hotel is in a town
- Right for
- Couples who want a strictly adults-only hotel by the sea, 30 minutes from the airport.
- Wrong for
- Wrong for: Anyone travelling with a 16 or 17-year-old: the hotel is 18 and over.
- The catch
- The catch: Flexible bookings are charged in full 48 hours before arrival, and it publishes no season dates or parking. Its site says 93 rooms while the government register lists 68 units, and its restaurant page describes a terrace with Playa de Palma as a backdrop, which is the other side of the bay.

Camp de Mar
The Camp de Mar Hotel & Resort
€€Rated 4.6 out of 5 on Google Maps from 1,303 reviews, as of October 2026Best valueA large five-star resort in Camp de Mar, registered with 165 units, where every room category is 45 square metres. It has an outdoor pool open all year, a heated indoor pool in the spa, a kids club for ages 4 to 11 in school holidays, and rooms from 164 euro on its own site.
- Walk to the nearest beach or cove, and the main square where the hotel is in a town
- About 5 minutes to the sandy beach at Camp de Mar, hotel's own figure to the nearest beach or cove, and the main square where the hotel is in a town
- Right for
- Families and winter visitors who want a five-star that stays open, with a beach about five minutes away.
- Wrong for
- Wrong for: Anyone after a small, quiet hotel: this is a 165-unit resort with a family programme.
- The catch
- The catch: The beach is public and the hotel has no loungers there, so sunbeds are hired. Parking is charged, the outdoor pool is not heated, and the kids club runs only Tuesday to Saturday mornings in school holidays. Its terms charge 90 percent of the room price for late cancellation.

Deià
Belmond La Residencia
€€€€Rated 4.6 out of 5 on Google Maps from 895 reviews, as of October 2026A Gran Luxe hotel built around twin 17th-century manor houses once home to Cistercian monks, open as a hotel since 1984, with 67 rooms and suites including one villa. It has indoor and outdoor pools, a spa with a heated indoor pool, an art gallery with a resident artist, and free valet parking.
- Walk to the nearest beach or cove, and the main square where the hotel is in a town
- About 20 minutes downhill to Cala Deià, hotel's own figure, and uphill on the way back. Road route: 25 minutes (1,851 m) to the nearest beach or cove, and the main square where the hotel is in a town
- Right for
- Anyone who wants Deià and the mountains more than a beach, with children welcome.
- Wrong for
- Wrong for: Anyone who wants to stroll to sand and back: the cove walk returns uphill.
- The catch
- The catch: No beach, only the stony cove at Cala Deià. The hotel gives 45 minutes to the airport on its home page and 40 in its FAQ, the Smile Club for ages 4 to 12 runs only from May to September, and the smallest Classic room is 21 square metres. It publishes no season dates; Belmond's own press site records a reopening on 19 March after the off-season.

- No beach of its own. Free shuttle to Port de Sóller; Platja d'en Repic is 27 minutes (2.0 km) on foot, road route, not operator figure to the nearest beach or cove, and the main square where the hotel is in a town
- Right for
- Families who want a kids club and a separate adults' pool, with the Tramuntana and the port below.
- Wrong for
- Wrong for: Teenagers under 16 who expect the best pool: the infinity pool, the thermal area and the gym are 16 and over.
- The catch
- The catch: Parking is 30 euro a day, and the hotel itself warns that taxis in Sóller have been unreliable at peak times and suggests a transfer or a hire car. The kids club is for ages 3 to 12 on the website but 3 to 8 in the brand factsheet, so ask.

Sóller town
Gran Hotel Sóller

- Wrong for
- Wrong for: Anyone who wants to walk to the sea: the port beach is about 3 km away.

- Right for
- Families and couples who want a real sandy beach a few steps from the room, which almost no other five-star here offers.
- Wrong for
- Wrong for: Anyone on a short break: it is 60 minutes and 76 km from Palma airport, at the far end of the island.
- The catch
- The catch: The Formentor road is closed to unregistered cars from 10:00 to 22:00 between 15 May and 18 October, so the hotel needs your number plate in advance. Its booking engine showed a tourist tax of 1.10 euro for October dates, which does not match the government's high-season rate, so check the bill.

Santanyí
Can Ferrereta
€€€Rated 4.7 out of 5 on Google Maps from 241 reviews, as of October 2026A five-star in a mansion in the historic centre of Santanyí, a few steps from Plaça Major, with 13 rooms and 19 suites, a 25-metre outdoor pool, a 10-metre heated indoor pool in the Sa Calma spa, and a Pool Suite with its own heated pool.

Where not to book in Majorca
No part of Majorca is one to avoid, so the traps are in the assumptions. The first is that five-star means beachfront: nine of these twelve have no sand within five minutes, and in Deià the walk back from the cove is uphill. The second is the age rule, which is often on the pool rather than the booking: Jumeirah's infinity pool is 16 and over, Son Brull's main pool is for over-12s, and Castell Son Claret's spa and star restaurant are 14 and over. The third is the road. The Formentor peninsula is closed to unregistered cars from 10:00 to 22:00 between 15 May and 18 October, and Sóller's low-emission zone fines unregistered drivers 200 euro a trip. And if you were planning on Port d'Andratx, the government register lists no five-star hotel there: the nearest is in Camp de Mar.
When to book
None of these hotels publishes how far ahead it fills, so book around the seasons it does publish. Jumeirah reopened on 14 March 2026 and Four Seasons Formentor on 18 March, Gran Hotel Sóller on 13 February, and Cap Rocat's booking engine opens again from mid-March 2027 after its 15 November to 10 March closure. From 1 November the five-star tourist tax falls from 4.40 to 1.10 euro a person a night, which makes November the cheapest month for tax at the hotels still open: The Camp de Mar promotes the cooler months, and Son Brull's own offers run to 22 November 2026. For a stay of nine nights or more, the tax halves again from the ninth night.
