Crete All Inclusive Family Resorts, and What Those Two Words Actually Buy

Nineteen resorts tested against a single question in September 2026: does the operator's own website name and describe an all-inclusive plan you can actually buy? Sixteen passed, which settles the first question. Crete really is an all-inclusive island, and unlike Bali, where the same test passed only three of fourteen, the keyword's assumption holds. The finding is what sits inside the words, because on this island the same two words buy anything from one a la carte meal a week to unlimited dining, and from local spirits to more than a hundred premium labels.

Almost nothing consistent, and the a la carte allowance is where the plans separate. At Phaea Cretan Malia the operator publishes dine-around at all available a la carte restaurants with no limit on visits. At Anemos it is three times a week with a cap of four plates per meal. At Grecotel Marine Palace the property's own FAQ says a weekly reservation entitles you to visit one a la carte restaurant in total, with more available at a charge. That is the same phrase covering unlimited dining and a single meal. The drinks split the same way: Grecotel LUX-ME publishes more than a hundred regular and premium brands, while Mitsis Selection Rinela, which sells itself as ultra all-inclusive, publishes that the drinks included are local alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.

What the rate covers, and what it does not

Read the a la carte rule and the departure-day cut-off before the pictures, because those two lines decide the week more than the star rating does. The departure-day spread is six hours wide: Star Beach publishes that the plan runs till the guest's departure time, every Grecotel property cuts off at 17:00, and Anemos cuts off at 11:00 noon. On a late-afternoon flight that difference is a whole day of meals. Note too that Mitsis publishes no exclusion list anywhere on any of its properties: what is not included has to be read off the per-item charge tags in the facilities lists instead.

What the bands mean

The charge to budget for is the Climate Crisis Resilience Fee, which Greek law sets by star rating at 2, 5, 10 or 15 euros per room per night from April to October, with a reduced band from November to March. Three operators on this page publish their own figure and they differ exactly as the statute predicts: Grecotel Marine Palace publishes 10 euros per room per night, while Grecotel LUX-ME White and Creta Palace both publish 15. Amirandes publishes 15 from 1 April to 31 October and states that it drops in winter. Aquila publishes no fee anywhere, on the property page, the brand all-inclusive page or its own sales manual, and that absence is recorded rather than filled in. Mitsis names the fee only in passing, inside an unrelated package condition, and never gives an amount. Check the figure against the statute rather than the hotel, because the star rating decides it and the hotel does not always say.

Where not to book in Crete

Three resorts failed the test and they are worth naming, because two of them are the ones a family searching this phrase is most likely to be shown. Aquila Rithymna Beach is the biggest family resort in its portfolio and it publishes no board plan anywhere: the words all inclusive appear once in 1,546 lines of its own 2023 sales manual, and they are about a children's snack corner. There is no plan page, no inclusion list and no exclusion list, so what the rate covers cannot be established from the operator at all. That is a shame, because its childcare is the most detailed on the island, with a Creche Club taking babies from eight months and a free supervised overnight club for older children. Domes of Elounda fails plainly and honestly: it states outright that it sells bed and breakfast. Aulus Chania genuinely is ultra all-inclusive and is adults-only, so it fails for families rather than on the plan. One more to check before you book: Aquila Porto Rethymno passes on paper and is the only Aquila property publishing a real plan page, but it is a town hotel with no kids club, no waterslides and nothing that sleeps four, so it answers the wrong question.

When to book

Book the plan, not the resort. Read three lines before anything else: how many a la carte visits a week the plan buys, whether the drinks are described as local or as premium, and what time the plan stops on your departure day. Then check whether the water is on site, because Grecotel LUX-ME White sends families fifteen kilometres to another hotel for its slides and does not include the transfer, and Amirandes has no slides at all.

Yes, and unusually so. Nineteen properties were tested against a single question, whether the operator's own website names and describes an all-inclusive plan a guest can buy, and sixteen passed. That is a far higher rate than the same test produced elsewhere: in Bali only three of fourteen properties passed. So the assumption behind the search is correct and Crete really is an all-inclusive island. What is not correct is the assumption that the phrase means the same thing twice.

It depends entirely on which plan, and the spread is wider than the price difference between the resorts. The a la carte allowance runs from unlimited at Phaea Cretan Malia, where the operator publishes dine-around at all available restaurants with no limit on visits, through three times a week with a four-plate cap at Anemos, down to one visit in a whole week at Grecotel Marine Palace on that property's own FAQ. The drinks run from more than a hundred regular and premium brands at Grecotel LUX-ME to local alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks at Mitsis Selection Rinela, which markets itself as ultra all-inclusive. A plan that includes unlimited dining and premium spirits is worth having. A plan that buys one a la carte meal and local spirits may not beat half board.

On published evidence rather than opinion, it depends which fact matters most to you. Phaea Cretan Malia has the only unlimited a la carte allowance. Grecotel Creta Palace has the best-documented aqua park, and the only one publishing its height thresholds. Canvas by Mitsis Cretan Village is the only property on the island publishing a slide's length and its minimum height in a single line, and it does that at a four-star price. Star Beach publishes the best departure-day rule. Mitsis Selection Rinela is the one to pick with a baby, because the cot and the infant package are free and stated plainly. What is missing from that list is the resort most families will be shown first, Aquila Rithymna Beach, and the reason is that it publishes no board plan at all.

Greek law sets a Climate Crisis Resilience Fee by star rating at 2, 5, 10 or 15 euros per room per night from April to October, with a reduced band from November to March, and it is paid at the hotel rather than in the rate. The operators on this page publish exactly what the statute predicts: Grecotel Marine Palace publishes 10 euros a night and the two LUX-ME properties, White and Creta Palace, both publish 15. Amirandes publishes 15 from 1 April to 31 October and states that it drops in winter. Aquila publishes no figure anywhere on its property pages, its brand all-inclusive page or its own sales manual, and Mitsis mentions the fee only inside an unrelated package condition without ever naming an amount. Check it against the statute, not the hotel.

Anywhere between 11am and your flight, and the six-hour spread is the most overlooked number on this page. Star Beach Village publishes the most generous rule found on the island, that the plan runs till the guest's departure time. Every Grecotel property publishes a 17:00 cut-off. Anemos Luxury Grand Resort publishes 11:00 noon, which is the earliest here. On an evening flight home, that is the difference between a full last day of meals and buying lunch and dinner twice. It is published by all three operators and almost never mentioned by anyone writing about them.
