In Brief
What are the best family hotels in Malta?
db Seabank Resort + Spa is the strongest all-round answer, in the €€€ band: all inclusive, a free kids club for ages 4 to 12, a 40 square metre Family Room with four real beds, and Mellieħa Bay's natural sand nine minutes away. For value and families of six, Mellieha Holiday Centre's bungalows sit 300 metres from the same beach.
Key takeaways
- Only two of twelve are within ten minutes' walk of one of Malta's big natural sandy beaches, both on Mellieħa Bay
- The eco-contribution rose to 1.50 euro per adult a night on 1 July 2026, and two hotel sites still quote the old 0.50
- Under-18s are exempt only if you can prove their age, so take the children's passports to check-in
- Only the Westin runs a kids club every day from 9am to 5pm, and it is a paid extra that turns away under-3s

Which rooms actually fit your family
Find your party shape along the top, then read down. A tick means the hotel publishes a room that holds that group in one booking. A dash means the hotel does not publish the fact at all, which is not the same as a no, and is why the column exists.

Every tick and figure comes from the hotel's own website or its brand's site, read on 3 October 2026, and beach types come from the Environmental Health Directorate's bathing water profiles and VisitMalta. A dash means the operator publishes nothing, which is not the same as a no. The occupancy columns are strict: Grand Hotel Gozo shows dashes because it lists the beds in its family rooms but never says how many people may sleep in them. Two hotels were only partly readable: the main marriott.com page for The Westin Dragonara Resort and the Beach Club and Pools page for DoubleTree by Hilton Malta refused every method tried, so those gaps are marked rather than guessed. Several operators contradict themselves and both readings are kept: db San Antonio sells its Duplex as five people on one page and four on another, Corinthia gives six pools on one page and four on another, and Ramla Bay Resort disagrees with itself on its pools, its season and its parking.
These are family facts, and family facts go stale. This table is set for re-verification in April 2027.
Which one fits how your family travels
Find the row that sounds like your trip. Every pick below names the family it is wrong for, so you can book on fit rather than on rank.
| If you are | Book | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Bringing children aged 4 to 12 and wanting all inclusive | db Seabank Resort + Spa | The kids club is free on all inclusive, the Family Room has four real beds, and Mellieħa Bay's sand is nine minutes away. Avoid planning on the club for a Tuesday. |
| Five or six in one booking | Mellieha Holiday Centre, or DoubleTree by Hilton Malta | The 70 square metre bungalow has four real beds and a sofa for two more. DoubleTree's two-bedroom family room sleeps six, with two on a sofa bed in the main bedroom. |
| Wanting a full day of childcare | The Westin Dragonara Resort, Malta | Its kids club is the only one here open every day from 9am to 5pm, for ages 3 to 12, at extra cost. |
| Bringing a toddler | db San Antonio Hotel + Spa | Two shallow toddler pools with a pirate ship, a baby pool beside the indoor pool, and a lido on the sand inside the grounds. |
| Set on a door between parents and children | The Phoenicia Malta | Two Superior Interconnecting Rooms are sold for four with a double, twin beds and two bathrooms, and cots are free. |
| Children over 1.2 m who want slides | AX ODYCY | The water park runs April to October, and most of its slides need a minimum height of 1.2 m. |
| Staying on Gozo without a car | Grand Hotel Gozo | It is a few minutes' walk from the Mġarr ferry terminals, though it publishes no room occupancy, so confirm the room by email. |

What the bands mean
None of these hotels publishes a fixed nightly rate on the pages read, so the bands below are relative tiers rather than quotes. What is published, and new this year, is the eco-contribution. For visits starting on or after 1 July 2026 it is 1.50 euro a night for every guest aged 18 or over, capped at 22.50 euro a person per visit, which is 15 nights, according to the Malta Tourism Authority. Before July it was 0.50 euro a night capped at 5 euro, as the AX brand's own terms record, and Hilton Malta and Kempinski Hotel San Lawrenz still show that old figure as current. Children under 18 pay nothing, but the authority's guidelines assume every guest is an adult unless a passport, identity card or birth certificate proves otherwise, so take the children's documents to check-in. Two adults and two children staying seven nights pay 21 euro. The other line that moves the bill is the child rate: both db resorts let one child aged 11 or under stay free on all inclusive with two paying adults, but only when booked direct.

The 12 hotels, and the room to ask for at each
Walking times are to the nearest sandy beach. Measured in October 2026 to each hotel's nearest sandy beach, because most of Malta's coast is rock: the Environmental Health Directorate's bathing water profiles describe Sliema's Tower Road and Qui-Si-Sana as rocky beaches and St Julian's Bay as a concrete platform. Where the operator publishes a figure it is used, as at Mellieha Holiday Centre, 300 metres through its own underground walkway, and db San Antonio, whose lido is inside the grounds. Otherwise the figure is a foot route on OpenStreetMap from the operator's published coordinates, with minutes worked out at 1.25 metres a second. The Westin Dragonara and AX ODYCY publish no coordinates, so OpenStreetMap's position for each hotel is used. The same profiles say what kind of sand it is: Għadira Bay at Mellieħa is the largest sandy beach in Malta, St George's Bay was replenished with imported granite sand in 2004 and 2005, and the Buġibba perched beach was a sharp rocky shore until artificial sand was laid over about 2,000 square metres in 2006.

Mellieħa Bay
db Seabank Resort + Spa
€€€Rated 4.4 out of 5 on Google Maps from 9,417 reviews, as of October 2026Best for fourA four-star superior all-inclusive resort on Marfa Road that the operator places at the foot of Mellieħa Bay, which the health directorate calls the largest sandy beach in Malta. The Family Room is the one to book: 40 square metres published as 4 + Cot, every sleeper in a real bed, and sliding doors between the two sleeping areas. The kids club is free for all-inclusive guests, and the outdoor kids pool has a ship-themed attraction.
- Room to book
- Book this room: The 40 square metre Family Room, two sleeping areas divided by sliding doors, published as 4 + Cot
- Children stay free
- One child aged 11 or under stays free on all inclusive with two paying adults, when booked direct only
- Breakfast for children
- All inclusive, so breakfast is in the rate, and no separate child price is published
- Walk to the nearest sandy beach
- 9 minutes at 682 m to the Għadira Bay sand on a road route. The operator says only that it sits at the foot of Mellieħa Bay to the nearest sandy beach
- Right for
- Parents of four to twelve-year-olds who want natural sand on foot, a free kids club and everyone in a real bed.
- Wrong for
- Wrong for: A family of five, because every bookable room is capped at 4 + Cot and the six-person Bunked Family Room is on request only.
- The catch
- The catch: The kids club keeps short hours, 10.00 to 12.30 and 15.00 to 17.00, it is closed on Tuesdays, and under-4s must stay with an adult. None of the outdoor pools is heated, the indoor pool is adults-only from 7 to 9 am and from midday to 3 pm, and the Quad Room puts two of its four guests on sofa beds.

Għadira, Mellieħa Bay
Mellieha Holiday Centre
€Rated 4.4 out of 5 on Google Maps from 1,445 reviews, as of October 2026Best valueA village of single-storey self-catering houses at Għadira, owned by the Danish travel company FolkeFerie. The 70 square metre bungalow is the clearest six-person unit on this page: a double bedroom, a room with two singles, and a living-room sofa that makes up as two more beds. The centre says the sandy beach is 300 metres away through its own underground walkway, so children never cross the road, and there is a paddling pool and an older children's pool with fountains.
- Room to book
- Book this room: The 70 square metre bungalow, two bedrooms with four real beds and a sofa for two more
- Breakfast for children
- Self-catering with a full kitchen, and the owner says it does not offer all inclusive
- Walk to the nearest sandy beach
- About 4 minutes, from the operator's figure of 300 m by its private underground walkway. A road route to the mapped beach point is 486 m to the nearest sandy beach
- Right for
- A family of five or six who want a kitchen, a children's pool and sand reached through a tunnel.
- Wrong for
- Wrong for: Families who want hotel service or all inclusive, because these are self-catering houses and no all inclusive is offered.
- The catch
- The catch: It is run around Danish charter guests: the operator says the great majority of guests are Danish, the activity club runs only in school summer holidays, and mhc.com.mt shows no prices at all. Air conditioning in the 70 square metre bungalows costs extra in summer, and the indoor pool is reserved for adults in summer.

Qawra and Buġibba
db San Antonio Hotel + Spa
€€€Rated 4.4 out of 5 on Google Maps from 7,343 reviews, as of October 2026The Qawra sister of db Seabank, a four-star superior all-inclusive hotel whose Nine Lives lido sits on the Buġibba perched beach and is reached without leaving the hotel. That sand is artificial: the health directorate says the shore was sharp rock until 2006. For small children it has two shallow toddler pools with a pirate ship, water cannons and a mushroom waterfall, plus a baby pool beside the indoor pool, and the kids club is free on all inclusive.
- Room to book
- Book this room: The 45 square metre Suite, published as 4 + Cot, rather than the 29 square metre Family Room
- Children stay free
- One child aged 11 or under stays free on all inclusive with two paying adults, when booked direct only
- Breakfast for children
- All inclusive, so breakfast is in the rate, and no separate child price is published
- Walk to the nearest sandy beach
- On the beach: the operator says the Nine Lives lido on Perched Beach is reached without leaving the hotel, and beach club services may cost extra to the nearest sandy beach
- Right for
- Parents of toddlers who want all inclusive, shallow pools and sand without crossing a road.
- Wrong for
- Wrong for: Families who want an indoor swim at lunchtime, since the heated indoor pool is adults-only from 12:00 to 15:00 every day.
- The catch
- The catch: The 248 Family Rooms are single 29 square metre rooms published as 3 + 1, where two of the four sleep on a sofa bed and a trundle bed. The nine Duplexes are sold as five people on their own page and as a group of four on the rooms overview, and the kids club publishes no ages or hours.

Qawra
AX ODYCY
€€Rated 4.8 out of 5 on Google Maps from 5,946 reviews, as of October 2026A Qawra seafront hotel built around a water park with slides and a kids' paddle pool, open April to October, plus a family indoor pool open all year. Every family and quadruple room is 27 square metres and published as sleeping four, mostly as two separate bedroom areas with 100 by 200 cm twin beds. Cots are free, and the kids club runs three sessions a day, including 20.00 to 21.30.
- Room to book
- Book this room: The Quadruple Room - Sea View, two separate bedrooms with private bathrooms, published as sleeping four
- Breakfast for children
- Half board or all inclusive are upgrades at a charge, priced at the front desk, with no child rate published
- Walk to the nearest sandy beach
- 10 minutes at 724 m to the Buġibba perched beach on a road route. The operator's FAQ leaves that beach out and names Għajn Tuffieħa and Golden Bay, about 15 minutes by car, as the nearest sand to the nearest sandy beach
- Right for
- Families with children over 1.2 m who want slides, and parents of five to twelve-year-olds who want an evening kids club session.
- Wrong for
- Wrong for: Parents of under-5s hoping for drop-off childcare, since under-5s must stay with a parent at the kids club.
- The catch
- The catch: Nothing sleeps more than four, and 27 square metres split into two bedroom areas is tight for four people. Most slides need a minimum height of 1.2 m, parking is charged to every guest with no price published, the rooftop pool is adults-only and the Cheeky Monkey pool deck is 13+.

Qawra, by Buġibba
DoubleTree by Hilton Malta
€€Rated 4.6 out of 5 on Google Maps from 1,445 reviews, as of October 2026The former Dolmen Hotel in Qawra, now trading under the DoubleTree name, and one of only two places here with an ordinary bookable unit for six: the 47 square metre Two Bedroom Family Sea View and Sofabed. The Two Bedroom Family Room with Sea View gives four people two separate bedrooms in 49 square metres. The Kids' Club is open daily, parking is 5 euro a day, and the Buġibba bus terminal is 0.2 km away by the operator's figure.
- Room to book
- Book this room: The 49 square metre Two Bedroom Family Room with Sea View for four, or the 47 square metre sofabed version for six
- Breakfast for children
- Breakfast is available for a fee with a kids menu, and no price is published
- Walk to the nearest sandy beach
- About 2 minutes to the Buġibba perched beach on a road route of 115 m to the nearest sandy beach
- Right for
- A family of five or six who want two bedrooms in a resort hotel beside the Buġibba bus terminal.
- Wrong for
- Wrong for: Anyone expecting breakfast or an airport transfer in the rate, as breakfast costs extra and the hotel says airport shuttles are not available.
- The catch
- The catch: In the six-person room the fifth and sixth guests share a sofa bed inside the main bedroom. The Kids' Club publishes hours, 10 am to 12:30 pm and 2 pm to 4:30 pm, but no ages or price, and the hotel's Beach Club and Pools page could not be read, so whether its Sabi Beach Club is sand or rock and whether there is a children's pool are not established.

St George's Bay, St Julian's
Corinthia St George's Bay
€€€Rated 4.6 out of 5 on Google Maps from 6,633 reviews, as of October 2026A resort on its own stretch of St George's Bay in St Julian's with a lido, a private jetty, an outdoor children's pool and, according to its FAQ, a special toddlers pool. The sandy beach at the head of the bay is about five minutes away on foot, though the health directorate records that its sand is imported granite laid in 2004 and 2005. The Sea View Family Room has two double beds with enough space for four.
- Room to book
- Book this room: The Sea View Family Room, two double beds in 27 square metres, published with enough space for four
- Breakfast for children
- Breakfast 7 to 10.30, included in the Family Escape offer, with no child price published
- Walk to the nearest sandy beach
- 5 minutes at 411 m to the St George's Bay sand on a road route. The operator says a sandy beach is a stone's throw away to the nearest sandy beach
- Right for
- A family of four who want a toddler pool, a lido and sand within a short walk in St Julian's.
- Wrong for
- Wrong for: Families of five, or anyone wanting a separate children's bedroom, as the family rooms are single 27 square metre rooms.
- The catch
- The catch: The Family Room is 27 square metres on average, the same size as the hotel's Superior Room, and the Family Friendly Services page the site links to returns a 404, so no kids club is published. The site gives two pool counts as well: six pools on the spa page, three pools and one outdoor kids pool on the facilities page.

Dragonara Point, St Julian's
The Westin Dragonara Resort, Malta
€€€€Rated 4.6 out of 5 on Google Maps from 3,956 reviews, as of October 2026A resort on the Dragonara Point peninsula in St Julian's and the only hotel here with a kids club open every day from 9am to 5pm: The Westin Family Kids Club takes ages 3 to 12 and parents may not stay. Both the heated Bay View Pool and the seasonal Reef Club Pool list a children's pool, and the hotel's own photo captions call its cove the Reef Club Sandy Cove. The Penthouse Suite takes up to six in three double bedrooms.
- Room to book
- Book this room: A Luxury Bay Suite, sold as ideal for families with a kitchenette and two terraces, once the occupancy is confirmed in writing
- Breakfast for children
- Breakfast at The Terrace is charged, with no price published
- Walk to the nearest sandy beach
- 7 minutes at 489 m to the St George's Bay sand on a road route, measured from OpenStreetMap's position for the hotel to the nearest sandy beach
- Right for
- Parents of three to twelve-year-olds who want a full day of childcare and are happy to pay for it.
- Wrong for
- Wrong for: Families with a baby or toddler under three who want childcare, because the club does not take under-3s.
- The catch
- The catch: The kids club is a paid extra with no price published, and it turns away under-3s. The marriott.com overview page could not be read, so standard room occupancy, cot terms and parking are not established, and the site contradicts itself on access: no accessible rooms on the rooms page, full accessibility on the events page.

Portomaso, St Julian's
Hilton Malta
€€€€Rated 4.7 out of 5 on Google Maps from 7,565 reviews, as of October 2026A large Portomaso hotel whose Family Deluxe rooms put four people in two queen-sized beds rather than on a sofa, and list connecting rooms among their amenities. Three two-bedroom family suites of 80 to 147 square metres sleep up to six. There is a kids' splash pool beside two seasonal outdoor pools, and on the brand's breakfast-included rate up to two children aged 5 or under per room eat breakfast free with an adult.
- Room to book
- Book this room: A Family Deluxe Room with two queen beds for four, or a two-bedroom family suite for six if it shows as bookable
- Breakfast for children
- On the Breakfast Included rate, up to two children aged 5 or under per room eat free with an adult diner
- Walk to the nearest sandy beach
- 11 minutes at 795 m to the St George's Bay sand on a road route to the nearest sandy beach
- Right for
- A family of four who want two real queen beds, a connecting option and a splash pool in a marina setting.
- Wrong for
- Wrong for: Families who want a beach day together at the hotel, because its only beach club is adults-only.
- The catch
- The catch: The hotel's only beach facility, Merkanti Beach Club, is for over-16s and open June to September, and there is no kids club, only childcare with fees. The rooms page still quotes the eco tax as 0.50 euro per adult a night capped at 5 euro, the rate replaced on 1 July 2026, and the family suites appear in the room data but not in the default list.

Marfa
Ramla Bay Resort
€€Rated 4.4 out of 5 on Google Maps from 5,343 reviews, as of October 2026A resort on its own on the Marfa peninsula at the northern tip of Malta, with a kids' splash pool, outdoor family pools and an indoor family pool kept between 27 and 30 degrees. Its sea access is mostly rock: the operator describes a natural rocky shoreline with ladders and a small sandy beach, its tiny sandy corner of the bay, open May to October. The Panoramic Suite is the only room with a published maximum, four.
- Room to book
- Book this room: The Panoramic Suite, about 80 square metres for up to four, with a separate living room and two bathrooms
- Breakfast for children
- Bed and breakfast or half board only, no all inclusive, and no child price published
- Walk to the nearest sandy beach
- Its own small sandy beach is steps from the resort, per the operator. The larger sand at Armier Bay is 18 minutes at 1,336 m on a road route, and the operator puts Mellieħa Bay about 15 minutes away by car to the nearest sandy beach
- Right for
- A family who want a quiet resort near the Gozo ferry and are happy swimming off rocks and ladders.
- Wrong for
- Wrong for: Parents of toddlers who want to walk on to a proper sandy beach every morning.
- The catch
- The catch: The kids club publishes no ages, hours or cost, and parents must supervise children at all times. In the Panoramic Suite two of the four sleep on a sofa bed. The site contradicts itself on its pools, four outdoor on one page and three on another, on their season, May or April to October, and on parking, not available or complimentary.

Floriana, by Valletta
The Phoenicia Malta
€€€€Rated 4.8 out of 5 on Google Maps from 2,164 reviews, as of October 2026A five-star hotel by Valletta's City Gate in Floriana and the only hotel here that sells a connecting pair as one room type: Two Superior Interconnecting Rooms, 53 square metres, sleeping four in a double and twin beds with two bathrooms. Cots are free on request and connecting rooms are confirmed in writing. There is a seasonal infinity pool and an indoor pool in the spa, but no beach.
- Room to book
- Book this room: Two Superior Interconnecting Rooms, sold together for four with a double, twin beds and two bathrooms
- Breakfast for children
- Depends on the rate booked; a breakfast-inclusive offer exists, with no child price published
- Walk to the nearest sandy beach
- 67 minutes at 5,035 m to the small sandy beach at Balluta Bay on a road route, so in practice there is no sand on foot to the nearest sandy beach
- Right for
- A family of four doing Valletta on foot who want real beds, a door between the rooms and two bathrooms.
- Wrong for
- Wrong for: A beach holiday with small children, and families of five, since no room sleeps more than four.
- The catch
- The catch: No beach, no kids club and no children's pool are published. The outdoor infinity pool is seasonal with no dates given, and every room type outside the suites and the interconnecting pair sleeps two.

San Lawrenz, Gozo
Kempinski Hotel San Lawrenz
€€€€Rated 4.7 out of 5 on Google Maps from 2,499 reviews, as of October 2026A five-star countryside hotel on the edge of San Lawrenz in west Gozo, 2.6 km from Dwejra by the operator's figure. The 48 square metre Family Room takes four, with a king or twins, a sofa bed and an in-room tent for children, and there are five pools including a family pool with a kids' section. Parking is free, and a free shuttle runs to Ramla Bay at 11:00.
- Room to book
- Book this room: The 48 square metre Family Room for four, or the 97 square metre Grand Suite with two master bedrooms
- Breakfast for children
- Breakfast is optional on most rates, with no price published
- Walk to the nearest sandy beach
- No sand on foot. The operator puts Ramla Bay, a sandy beach, at 8.9 km and Dwejra Bay at 2.6 km, and the free shuttle to Ramla runs one way only to the nearest sandy beach
- Right for
- A family with a car who want a quiet Gozo base, a family pool and room to spread out.
- Wrong for
- Wrong for: Families who want to walk to a sandy beach, since the nearest sand the operator names is 8.9 km away.
- The catch
- The catch: The Kids' Club runs Friday to Sunday only, 10:00 to 15:00, at 5 euro per child per day and from age 3, and the main outdoor pool is adults-only. Its own page still says stays are currently subject to an eco-contribution of 0.50 euro a night, a rate that ended on 1 July 2026.

Mġarr, Gozo
Grand Hotel Gozo
€Rated 4.3 out of 5 on Google Maps from 840 reviews, as of October 2026A four-star hotel above Mġarr harbour, a few minutes' walk from the Gozo ferry terminals by the operator's own description, which makes it the simplest Gozo base for a family without a car. The Superior Family has two double beds or a double and two singles, and the Family Suite puts two beds in a separate bedroom. Bed and breakfast, half board and full board are sold, and parking is free.
- Room to book
- Book this room: The Family Suite, for the separate bedroom, once the hotel confirms in writing how many it sleeps
- Breakfast for children
- Bed and breakfast, half or full board, breakfast 07:30 to 10:30, with no child price published
- Walk to the nearest sandy beach
- No beach published. The operator says the hotel is a few minutes' walk from the Mġarr ferry terminals to the nearest sandy beach
- Right for
- A family crossing to Gozo on foot who want the ferry and the harbour on the doorstep.
- Wrong for
- Wrong for: Families visiting from November to March who want a daytime swim.
- The catch
- The catch: It publishes no maximum occupancy for any room, no kids club and no children's pool. Under-16s are kept out of the indoor pool from 10:00 to 18:00, and the outdoor pool runs April to October only, so a winter family has no daytime swim.
Where not to book in Malta
The mistake in Malta is assuming a seafront hotel means a beach. Most of the coast is rock: the health directorate describes Sliema's Tower Road and Qui-Si-Sana as rocky beaches, and Barceló Fortina in Sliema, cut from this page, describes no sand nearer than Għajn Tuffieħa, 17 km away. Ramla Bay Resort's own sand is, in its words, a tiny sandy corner on a rocky shoreline with ladders, and AX ODYCY's FAQ puts the nearest sand it recognises 15 minutes away by car. Check the age rules on the good parts too: Hilton Malta's only beach club is for over-16s, and Kempinski's main outdoor pool is adults-only. Read the kids club hours rather than its existence: db Seabank's closes on Tuesdays, Kempinski's opens Friday to Sunday only, and under-5s at AX ODYCY must stay with a parent. Mellieħa town sits on a hill above the bay: Pergola Hotel, also cut, describes itself as situated on a hill, and the walk down to the Għadira sand is 22 minutes on a road route, which is a long climb back with a buggy. Finally, budget the eco-contribution at 1.50 euro per adult a night, whatever a hotel's own page says.
When to book
Book the room shape and the beach before the dates, because the units that hold five or six are few: Mellieha Holiday Centre's 70 square metre bungalows, DoubleTree's two-bedroom family room, Hilton Malta's three family suites and db Seabank's Bunked Family Room, which is on request only. Then match your dates to the seasonal parts. The AX ODYCY water park runs April to October, db San Antonio's main pool mid-April to mid-November, Grand Hotel Gozo's outdoor pool April to October, Hilton's adults-only beach club June to September, and Ramla Bay Resort's beach May to October. Mellieha Holiday Centre's activity club runs only in school summer holidays. Without a car, the buses are cheap for children: under-4s ride free and a seven-day Explore Child card for ages 4 to 10 costs 7 euro, against 25 euro for the adult card. The eco-contribution stops at 15 nights a person, so a longer stay adds nothing more to it.
