In Brief

When is the best time to visit Morocco?

The best time to visit Morocco is spring (March-May) and autumn (September-November) - warm, sunny, largely dry days that are comfortable for Marrakech, the imperial cities and the desert alike. Summer (July-August) is fiercely hot inland, regularly topping 38°C in Marrakech and the desert, though the Atlantic coast around Essaouira stays breezy and cool. Winter is mild by day but cold at night, with snow in the Atlas Mountains. Ramadan also shifts the rhythm of daily life when it falls.

Time it right: Morocco's seasonal highlights

  • Spring & autumn (best weather)

    March–May & September–November

The comfortable windows for combining Marrakech, Fes, the Sahara and the Atlas - warm days, cool nights and largely dry skies.

  • Ramadan

Late Feb–late March 2026 (shifts yearly)

During the holy month many restaurants close by day and the pace of life changes; travel is very possible, but plan meals and expect quieter daytime souks.

  • Sahara desert season

    October–April

Cooler months are the time for camel treks and overnight desert camps; midsummer is dangerously hot for the dunes by day.

  • Atlas Mountains snow

    December–March

The High Atlas gets real snow - there's even skiing at Oukaïmeden - while the cities below stay mild. Pack layers for the altitude.
