In Brief
Which hotel should I book in Tenerife?
Gran Hotel Bahía del Duque is the best all-round choice: it opens straight onto Playa del Duque, takes children aged 3 to 12 in its Mini Club, and is 20 minutes from Tenerife South on its own figure. For less, Arona Gran Hotel puts adults over 16 on the Los Cristianos seafront, 17 km from the airport. Book the north for towns and Teide, not for guaranteed sun.
Key takeaways
- South for sun: Tenerife South airport averages 1.8 days of rain in January, Tenerife North 7.7 (AEMET, 1981 to 2010)
- Adults-only ages differ: 16 at Arona Gran, 18 at Barceló Santiago, none published at Royal Hideaway Corales Beach
- All-inclusive is sold at Anthelia, Bitácora and Barceló Santiago; Arona Gran says in writing it does not offer it
- Fly into Tenerife North (TFN) for Puerto de la Cruz, Santa Cruz, La Laguna and Garachico

What the bands mean
Only one hotel here publishes a rate you can read without starting a booking: the Parador de Las Cañadas del Teide's own calendar showed 154 to 325 euro a night across October 2026, with Saturday 10 October the dearest night and Wednesday 21 October the cheapest. Every other operator runs a live booking engine, so the bands are relative tiers built from what each hotel publishes about its class and what is in the rate. Board is the line that moves the bill. Iberostar Selection Anthelia, Hotel Bitácora and Barceló Santiago sell all-inclusive. Arona Gran Hotel states that it does not, Iberostar Heritage Grand Mencey sells room only, breakfast or half board, and every stay at Gran Hotel Bahía del Duque includes breakfast.

The 12 hotels, and who each one is wrong for
Walking times are to the nearest beach or sea pool, or the old-town square where the sea is a drive away. Where a hotel publishes its own distance to the sea, that comes first and is labelled as the hotel's figure. Otherwise the walk is OpenStreetMap foot routing from the hotel's mapped position to the beach, with minutes worked out at 1.25 metres a second, and it is labelled as a road route. Big resorts are measured from their mapped centre, so a hotel that opens onto the sand can still show a few hundred metres. Airport and Teide drive figures are the hotel's own where it publishes one, otherwise free-flow OpenStreetMap car routing, which is optimistic on Tenerife's mountain roads, so treat those as minimums.

Costa Adeje, Playa del Duque
Gran Hotel Bahía del Duque
€€€€Rated 4.6 out of 5 on Google Maps from 1,982 reviews, as of October 2026Best all-roundFamilies and couples. A Leading Hotels of the World member with 357 rooms in more than 63,000 square metres of gardens, connecting directly with Playa del Duque. It has six pools, two of them seawater and one a heated children's pool, 10 restaurants including the Michelin-starred Nub, and breakfast in every stay.
- Walk to the nearest beach or sea pool, or the old-town square where the sea is a drive away
- On the beach: the hotel says it connects directly with Playa del Duque Sur and Playa del Duque Norte to the nearest beach or sea pool, or the old-town square where the sea is a drive away
- Right for
- Families who want a kids club for ages 3 to 12 and a Teen Club, and couples who want the top tier without an age rule.
- Wrong for
- Wrong for: Anyone who wants a casual dinner: formal attire is required in every restaurant, with no shorts or sandals for men over 16.
- The catch
- The catch: Entry to the Bahía Wellness Retreat spa is not in the room rate, the spa circuit is 16 and over, and the tennis courts are charged. Its own FAQ counts six pools while Turismo de Tenerife lists five, and it calls the beach golden where Turismo de Tenerife calls it grey.

La Caleta, Costa Adeje
Royal Hideaway Corales Beach
€€€€Rated 4.8 out of 5 on Google Maps from 1,875 reviews, as of October 2026Adults only, with no minimum age published. 121 junior suites in Barceló's Gran Lujo (5 GL) resort on La Enramada beachfront by La Caleta, with three heated outdoor saltwater pools and, by Barceló's own dating, three restaurants starred in the 2023 Michelin Guide.
- Walk to the nearest beach or sea pool, or the old-town square where the sea is a drive away
- On La Enramada beachfront by the hotel's description; La Caleta is 300 m and Playa del Duque 2.7 km on its own figures to the nearest beach or sea pool, or the old-town square where the sea is a drive away
- Right for
- Couples who want Spain's highest hotel class, Michelin-starred restaurants and the village of La Caleta 300 m away on the hotel's figure.
- Wrong for
- Wrong for: Families: this half of the resort is adults only, and the family half is the sister Corales Suites, with its kids and teens club.
- The catch
- The catch: La Enramada is pebbles, shingle and sand by Turismo de Tenerife's description, not soft sand. Indoor parking is charged, with free parking only on the public road, check-in is not until 16:00, and the hotel publishes no age at which a guest counts as an adult.

Costa Adeje, Playa de Fañabé
Iberostar Selection Anthelia
€€€Rated 4.8 out of 5 on Google Maps from 4,930 reviews, as of October 2026Families. A five-star family hotel in front of Fañabé beach with six pools, three of them for children with slides and a pirate ship, Star Camp clubs running from babies up to 17-year-olds, and all-inclusive sold alongside bed and breakfast and half board.
- Walk to the nearest beach or sea pool, or the old-town square where the sea is a drive away
- On the beach: the hotel says it is in front of Fañabé beach, 600 m of sand to the nearest beach or sea pool, or the old-town square where the sea is a drive away
- Right for
- Families who want five-star all-inclusive with a club for every age, from the 0 to 3 Kangaroo group to the 13 to 17 Eagle group.
- Wrong for
- Wrong for: Couples looking for quiet: Iberostar describes it as a family hotel designed so the whole family has the best time.
- The catch
- The catch: Even on all-inclusive, the à la carte restaurants sit outside the board, apart from one included meal on four to six nights and two on seven or more. The spa and the beach loungers are charged, and its own FAQ gives Tenerife South as 13 minutes in one answer and 19 km in another.

Playa de las Américas
Hotel Bitácora
€€Rated 4.6 out of 5 on Google Maps from 3,792 reviews, as of October 2026Families. A four-star family hotel with water slides, a children's pool, a miniclub, a minidisco and shows every night, sold as bed and breakfast, half board with house drinks at dinner, or Premium All Inclusive.
- Walk to the nearest beach or sea pool, or the old-town square where the sea is a drive away
- 10 minutes (732 m) to Playa del Camisón, road route, not operator figure to the nearest beach or sea pool, or the old-town square where the sea is a drive away
- Right for
- Families on a budget who want all-inclusive, slides and evening entertainment 18 km from Tenerife South.
- Wrong for
- Wrong for: Families of five: the hotel takes a maximum of four guests to a room, children included.
- The catch
- The catch: The Medusa pool, the main family pool, is reserved for over-18s in winter, and the UP! infinity pool and the outdoor spa pool are for over-18s only. There is no hotel car park, only a charged partner car park a few minutes away, and the Family Spa costs extra.

Los Cristianos seafront
Arona Gran Hotel
€€Rated 4.6 out of 5 on Google Maps from 3,522 reviews, as of October 2026Best valueAdults only, 16 and over. A seafront hotel on Avenida Juan Carlos I in Los Cristianos with two ground-level pools, one heated all year, a Thalasso spa and a rooftop UP! terrace with an infinity pool. Most rooms have a full or partial sea view.

- Right for
- Couples who want adults only on the seafront, 20 minutes from Tenerife South, without five-star prices.
- Wrong for
- Wrong for: Anyone who wants all-inclusive: the hotel offers bed and breakfast or half board and says in writing that it does not offer all-inclusive.
- The catch
- The catch: The rooftop infinity pool and glass pool are reserved for UP! rooms and suites, the Thalasso spa is charged, and there is no hotel car park, only free street parking nearby.

Puerto de Santiago, by Los Gigantes
Barceló Santiago
€€Rated 4.4 out of 5 on Google Maps from 5,487 reviews, as of October 2026Adults only, over 18. A 407-room four-star on a cliff at Puerto de Santiago, looking across to La Gomera and the Los Gigantes cliffs, with three outdoor pools, one of them heated, a spa with a hydrotherapy circuit and an all-inclusive programme.
- Walk to the nearest beach or sea pool, or the old-town square where the sea is a drive away
- 4 minutes to Puerto de Santiago beach on the hotel's figure (200 m); 21 minutes (1.6 km) to Playa de la Arena, road route to the nearest beach or sea pool, or the old-town square where the sea is a drive away
- Right for
- Adults who want all-inclusive and the west-coast sunsets, with the Los Gigantes natural pool a nine-minute walk away on the hotel's figure.
- Wrong for
- Wrong for: Anyone under 18, and anyone who wants a long golden beach: the beaches here are short and black.
- The catch
- The catch: The nearest beach is 50 m of black sand by Turismo de Tenerife's measure, and with 407 rooms this is a big hotel, not a hideaway. At 41 km it has the longest transfer from Tenerife South of the southern hotels here.

Puerto de la Cruz
Hotel Botánico
€€€€Rated 4.7 out of 5 on Google Maps from 2,054 reviews, as of October 2026Couples and families. A five-star Leading Hotels of the World member and part of the Loro Parque Group, with 212 rooms in 25,000 square metres of gardens, three heated pools including a children's pool, and the Oriental Spa Garden thermal circuit included for guests aged 16 and over.
- Walk to the nearest beach or sea pool, or the old-town square where the sea is a drive away
- About 700 m to Playa Martiánez on the hotel's figure; our road route to the middle of the beach is 1.3 km, 17 minutes to the nearest beach or sea pool, or the old-town square where the sea is a drive away
- Right for
- Anyone choosing the green north who wants full five-star service, a spa in the rate and a free minibus into Puerto de la Cruz.
- Wrong for
- Wrong for: Sunbathers who want sand outside the door: the nearest beach is black sand and pebbles with a surf zone.
- The catch
- The catch: Martiánez is pebbles and black sand by Turismo de Tenerife's description, so the pools do the swimming. Men need long trousers and closed shoes in the à la carte restaurants at night, and the Kinder Aventura children's programme usually runs only in school holidays.

Puerto de la Cruz centre
Hotel Monopol
€Rated 4.1 out of 5 on Google Maps from 1,336 reviews, as of October 2026Couples and solo travellers. A three-star run by the same family for over 92 years, in a pedestrian area a few minutes' walk from the old town and the sea, near the flower market, with Canarian wooden balconies and a glass-roofed patio of palms and carved verandas. - Walk to the nearest beach or sea pool, or the old-town square where the sea is a drive away
- 4 minutes (265 m) to Playa de San Telmo, road route, not operator figure to the nearest beach or sea pool, or the old-town square where the sea is a drive away
- Right for

- Wrong for
- Wrong for: Anyone who needs to know the facilities before booking: the hotel publishes almost none of them.
- The catch
- The catch: Its website lists three room types, a single and doubles with or without a balcony, and publishes no pool, board, room size, parking or child policy, so ask before you book. San Telmo is a small beach of pebbles and black sand.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife
Iberostar Heritage Grand Mencey
€€€Rated 4.8 out of 5 on Google Maps from 9,540 reviews, as of October 2026Couples and families. - Right for

- Wrong for
- Wrong for: A beach holiday: the nearest beach on the hotel's own figure is 8.5 km away.
- The catch
- The catch: There is no beach within walking distance and no all-inclusive: Iberostar sells room only, breakfast or half board without drinks. Parking is charged.

La Laguna old town
Hotel Laguna Nivaria
€€Rated 4.4 out of 5 on Google Maps from 2,515 reviews, as of October 2026Couples and families. A four-star in a 16th-century mansion on Plaza del Adelantado, in the UNESCO-listed old town of San Cristóbal de La Laguna, with a family room, a spa with a counter-current pool and a restaurant supplied from its own organic farm.
- Walk to the nearest beach or sea pool, or the old-town square where the sea is a drive away
- One minute (78 m) across Plaza del Adelantado, road route. There is no beach within walking distance to the nearest beach or sea pool, or the old-town square where the sea is a drive away
- Right for
- Culture-first travellers who want the old town on the doorstep, 4.7 km by road from Tenerife North.
- Wrong for
- Wrong for: Sun-seekers: AEMET's Tenerife North station, in the same municipality, averages 77.7 days of fog a year.
- The catch
- The catch: The only pool it publishes is in the spa, and the free spa circuit applies only to suites booked direct for three nights or more. La Laguna is also the coolest, wettest base here, with 520 mm of rain a year at the nearby airport station.

Garachico
Hotel San Roque
€€€Rated 4.7 out of 5 on Google Maps from 255 reviews, as of October 2026Couples. A 20-room boutique hotel in an 18th-century manor house in the heart of Garachico, restored by its owners between 1992 and 1996, with a pool dug into the volcanic rock beneath the patio and contemporary art throughout. Rooms run from 24 to 55 square metres.
- Walk to the nearest beach or sea pool, or the old-town square where the sea is a drive away

- Wrong for: Anyone who struggles with stairs, unless they book the one room type laid out on a single level.
- The catch
- The catch: By the hotel's own description the house is all split levels, interior stairs and wooden galleries that creak underfoot. It is 45 minutes from Tenerife North and 1 hour 20 from Tenerife South by car on its own figures.

Teide National Park
Parador de Las Cañadas del Teide
€€Rated 4.1 out of 5 on Google Maps from 6,548 reviews, as of October 2026Walkers and stargazers. Paradores' mountain hotel inside Teide National Park at over 2,000 m, with an indoor pool, a gym and a fireplace lounge, Roques de García on the doorstep, and its own electricity and mountain water supply.
- Walk to the nearest beach or sea pool, or the old-town square where the sea is a drive away
- 8 minutes (617 m) to Roque Cinchado at Roques de García, road route, not operator figure to the nearest beach or sea pool, or the old-town square where the sea is a drive away
- Right for
- Hikers who want Teide at the door: the cable car base is 3.8 km by road, and the Parador is the only hotel here that publishes its rates.
- Wrong for
- Wrong for: A beach holiday: Santa Cruz is 70 km away by the Parador's own figure, and the coast is a mountain drive.
- The catch
- The catch: Nights are cold. AEMET's high-altitude Izaña station, at 2,369 m, averages a January low of 1.1°C, 12.3 days of frost and 2.4 days of snow that month.
Where not to book in Tenerife
No resort on this page needs avoiding, so the traps are mismatches. The first is the wrong coast for the trip: a winter sun holiday booked in the north swaps the 1.8 days of rain in an average January at Tenerife South for 7.7 at Tenerife North. The second is the word adults. It means 16 at Arona Gran Hotel and 18 at Barceló Santiago, and two five-star adults-only hotels, Royal Hideaway Corales Beach and Iberostar Selection Sábila, publish no age at all, so ask before booking with a teenager. The third is sand. Turismo de Tenerife lists La Arena, Los Guíos and Playa Jardín as black sand and Martiánez as pebbles and black sand, while Los Cristianos, Las Vistas, El Camisón, Fañabé and Las Teresitas are pale. The last is the transfer: Hotel San Roque is 1 hour 20 from Tenerife South on its own figure, so fly into Tenerife North for anywhere on the north coast.
When to book
None of these hotels publishes how far ahead it fills, so book around the published small print instead. The Parador's own October 2026 calendar ran from 154 euro on Wednesday 21 October to 325 on Saturday 10 October, so a midweek night up on Teide costs about half a Saturday. Arona Gran Hotel and Hotel Bitácora give a free shuttle from Tenerife South for stays of seven nights or more booked direct, which is worth more on a short stay than a small rate difference. And check for closures: Iberostar Selection Sábila, an adults-only five-star in Costa Adeje, has published that its main pool closes for maintenance from 30 November to 10 December 2026.
