You've just landed in Cancún - now you need a ride to your resort past a gauntlet of timeshare touts. Here's the honest comparison of every way to get from the airport to your hotel, what it costs, how long it takes, and how to skip the airport hassle.

Cancún International Airport (CUN)Updated
In Brief

What's the best way to get from Cancún Airport to my hotel?

For most travelers, a pre-booked private transfer is the best option: it's a fixed price (around $65 for up to 8 people), your driver meets you with a name sign, and it's about 20-30 minutes to the Hotel Zone with no waiting or haggling. Shared shuttles are cheaper (~$25 per person) but stop at several hotels. The ADO bus is the budget choice to downtown or Playa del Carmen (from ~$5). Skip the airport taxi touts and timeshare booths inside the terminal - book your ride before you fly.

Tips to skip the airport hassle

  • Book before you fly

Pre-booking a private transfer locks in a fixed price and puts a driver with your name at the exit - so you walk straight past the chaos instead of negotiating after a long flight.

  • Ignore the timeshare 'amigos'

Inside the terminal, friendly people offering 'free transport', upgrades or help are timeshare and taxi touts. Smile, say no thanks, and head to your booked driver or the official ADO/taxi desks outside.

  • Watch the mandatory car insurance

If you rent instead, Mexico requires liability insurance you can't decline, so the cheap online car rate roughly doubles at the counter - only worth it if you'll actually road-trip the Riviera Maya.

  • The ADO bus is great value south

For Playa del Carmen or downtown on a budget, the air-conditioned ADO bus leaves right from the terminals and is far cheaper than a taxi - but it doesn't serve the Hotel Zone directly.

  • Have your resort name and address ready

Transfers quote by zone, so know exactly which hotel and area you're heading to - Hotel Zone, Playa or Tulum are very different distances and prices.
