Dollywood's own ride height chart prints a maximum height of 78 inches against Wild Eagle and 81 inches against Dragonflier, so a tall teenager can be turned away from two coasters. The Coaster at Goats on the Roof publishes a maximum of 84 inches and a driver band of 54 to 84 inches. WonderWorks publishes that a climber cannot be taller than 80 inches on its ropes course and sets a minimum of 40 pounds on its rock wall. And Anakeesta's tandem coaster gate is 38 inches AND no taller than the driver's shoulders, which is a limit measured against another person rather than a number. Three separate coasters also publish a sled weight limit that drops from 375 pounds to 330 in wet weather.
What can a family actually do in Pigeon Forge, and what will let your child on?
Thirty-nine inches unlocks the first real Dollywood coaster and 48 inches unlocks most of the park. Thirty-six inches unlocks four Splash Country slides. Thirty-eight inches is the common mountain-coaster gate, shared by the Goat Coaster, Pigeon Forge Snow's tubing and the Smoky Mountain Alpine Coaster, so a child who clears one clears all three. WonderWorks and Pigeon Forge Snow are the two indoor answers for rain or heat. Patriot Park, the Old Mill area and the Riverwalk Greenway are the only genuinely free things in town.
The 15 things worth doing, easiest first
The constraint here is money and height rather than distance. Almost nothing in Pigeon Forge is free, so the honest plan alternates a paid day with a free one, and the free half of the town is genuinely good. On height, measure your child with shoes off before you buy anything, because the gates cluster at 36, 38, 40, 42, 48 and 54 inches and a single inch decides several of them.

What parents ask about Pigeon Forge
What is the height requirement for the Dollywood rides?
It runs from 36 to 55 inches depending on the ride, and the chart is published by the park itself. Thirty-nine inches unlocks the first real coaster and 48 inches unlocks most of the park, so those are the two numbers to measure against. The part no guide carries is the other end: the chart prints a maximum height of 78 inches against Wild Eagle and 81 inches against Dragonflier, so a tall teenager can be turned away from two of the park's biggest coasters. Drop Line is the only ride with a published per-ride weight figure, at a maximum of 287 pounds. Measure with shoes off, because several rides sit an inch apart.
Is Splash Country included with a Dollywood ticket?
No. It is a separate gate with its own ticket and its own operating calendar. The two parks share a parking structure and a general parking purchase is transferable between them, and a complimentary tram runs between the lots. On price, the gap between ticket types is bigger here than anywhere else in town: a one-day Pick-A-Day starts at 29.99 dollars against 59.19 for the flexible Good-Any-Day, which is roughly half. Splash Country's own 2026 calendar covers May through September and nothing else, so a family visiting in April or October has no water park at all. Its gates are 36, 42 and 48 inches, and no slide publishes a maximum weight.
When is Dollywood closed?
February, entirely, on the park's own 2026 operating calendar, which prints March 2026 through 3 January 2027 and has no February on it at all. That is the single most consequential fact for anyone booking a winter trip, because Pigeon Forge hotels sell all year and the park that most families are coming for does not open. Within the season the hours vary widely by date, running from 10am to 7pm at the quiet end up to 9am to 11pm at peak. Splash Country's separate calendar runs May to September only. Check both calendars against your dates before booking a hotel, not after.
Do you need to pay to enter the Great Smoky Mountains National Park?
No entrance fee, and yes to a parking tag, which is the distinction families get wrong. The park charges nothing to enter and requires a tag to park anywhere inside it, at 5 dollars daily, 15 weekly or 40 annually per vehicle. An America the Beautiful pass does not cover it. Buy the tag before you drive out, because the park itself says most trailheads have no tag machines. Two other published rules matter for a family: the Cades Cove Loop Road runs sunrise to sunset and closes to vehicles on Wednesdays from roughly May through September, and the park's own guidance is to allow two to four hours for the loop.
Which Pigeon Forge attractions are open in the rain?

How much does a family day out cost in Pigeon Forge?
More than the published prices suggest, because several operators publish an adult price and no child price at all. Dollywood publishes adult gate prices from 94.99 dollars and refuses to publish a child price anywhere on its own site, and WonderWorks, the Titanic Museum and the Smoky Mountain Alpine Coaster do the same, publishing the age bands without the amounts. Where child prices do exist they are reasonable: the Goat Coaster charges 12 dollars for ages 3 to 12 against 15 for adults, the Great Smoky Mountain Wheel charges 13.99 against 18.99, and Forbidden Caverns charges 15 against 25. Add 25 dollars for Dollywood parking. The free half of town, Patriot Park, the Old Mill and the greenway, is what makes the week affordable.
Getting around with children
The Pigeon Forge Trolley is the answer for a family staying on the Parkway. Routes cost a dollar each, the Dollywood route is 2.50, an All Day Pass is 3 dollars and under-4s ride free, so the day pass beats a single Dollywood round trip the moment anyone boards twice. All routes start and end at the Mass Transit Trolley Station beside Patriot Park, where parking is free. It runs 8am to midnight from March to December and 10am to 10pm in January and February, and it does not run on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. Bring exact change. Anakeesta, the SkyLift Park and the national park all need a car.
Where to base yourself in Pigeon Forge
Almost everything on this page is on or just off the Pigeon Forge Parkway, and the trolley runs its length from the station at Patriot Park, so a hotel with a trolley stop outside removes the parking problem entirely. Anakeesta and the SkyLift Park are in Gatlinburg and need a car, and Forbidden Caverns is in Sevierville.
