Which Dublin hotels have interconnecting family rooms?

Only one of the twelve city-centre hotels checked describes an actual door. Maldron Parnell Square writes that its interconnecting rooms comprise two bedrooms with a connecting door, and separately publishes a count of fourteen of them. Maldron Smithfield, Maldron Kevin Street, Maldron Pearse Street and Clayton Cardiff Lane all claim interconnecting or family-connecting rooms as a product without ever describing a door between them, and Smithfield's costs extra. The distinction matters: adjoining means next to each other and connecting means you can walk between without going into the corridor, and only one hotel here commits to the second.

Do Dublin hotels charge for a cot?

Not in writing, anywhere we could find. Three of the twelve publish a cot policy and all three are free: Maldron Parnell Square, Clayton Cardiff Lane and Grand Canal Hotel. Two more acknowledge that cots exist without stating a price, and the remaining seven publish nothing at all. So the honest answer is that no central Dublin hotel publishes a cot charge, which is not the same as knowing none exists. If a cot matters to your booking, get it confirmed by email rather than assuming, because most of these hotels also decline to say whether an infant in a cot counts toward the room's maximum.

Can a family of five stay in one room in Dublin city centre?

At two of these twelve, and only two. Ashling publishes a 25 square metre family room welcoming up to five people, which is the best single room on this page because the places are real beds rather than a camp bed. Maldron Parnell Square sells its family rooms for five on two double beds and a large sofa bed, and can reach six with a 30 euro camp bed in a limited number of larger rooms. Everywhere else the ceiling is four, whatever the bed photographs suggest, and Trinity City and Maldron Kevin Street both state that limit plainly.

Which Dublin city-centre hotels have a swimming pool?

Two of the twelve. Clayton Cardiff Lane has a pool with a separate children's pool and publishes its own supervision rule, which is that a parent must be in the water with any child rather than watching from the side. Camden Court has a heated 16 metre pool. That is the whole list in the centre, which is why the live suburban Dublin family page exists: leisure centres in Dublin are largely a suburban and out-of-town product, and the hotels that have them mostly sit outside the canals where nobody walks anywhere.

What age counts as a child in Dublin hotels?

Under 12 in most of the set, and it is used for two different purposes that are easy to confuse. Maldron Kevin Street, Clayton Cardiff Lane and Trinity City all define their family-room occupancy as two adults and two children under 12. Maldron separately states that under-12s are considered children for the purpose of hotel packages, while its booking engine labels the occupancy selector for ages 13 and over, so a twelve-year-old sits in a gap between the two. Grand Canal is the only hotel here that publishes a stays-free age, and it is under two.

Should I stay in Dublin city centre or the suburbs with children?

It depends on whether you want a pool or a short walk, because in Dublin you rarely get both. The centre gives you Trinity, the museums and the Liffey on foot, and two hotels with pools out of twelve. The suburban and airport hotels give you leisure centres, family packages and parking, at the cost of a bus or a tram into town every morning. Twelve city-centre hotels checked against their own websites in August 2026, on the one question a family search actually ends at: how many people is this room allowed to hold. Five publish a numeric maximum. Three publish a cot policy, and all three are free. Exactly one uses the phrase a connecting door. The rest publish a bed count and leave you to guess whether you are permitted to sleep in them.

Dublin publishes beds, not permissions, and the gap between those two things is where families get caught.

What the bands mean

Almost nothing about the family cost of a Dublin room is published. Of these twelve, one states an exact extra-bed price, one publishes a stays-free age, and one gives an itemised child breakfast. Everything else is absent, which is itself the finding: you cannot compare Dublin family rooms on price because most hotels do not print the numbers that make up the price. What you can compare is permission. A room advertised with two double beds and a sofa bed is not a room for five if the same paragraph caps it at four, and that is not a rare edge case here. It is the normal case.

Walking times are to the hotel's own stated landmark, where one exists. Every walking figure on this page is the hotel's own claim, quoted as such, and none of it is measured. That is deliberate. Only four of the twelve publish a walking time to anything named, one of them publishes two different figures for the same walk on the same site, and measuring the other eight ourselves would produce a tidier page that hid the real finding, which is how little these hotels tell you about where they are.

Where not to book in Dublin

Do not book a Dublin family room on the bed list. The single most common failure here is a room described with enough beds for five and permitted for four, and Maldron Smithfield prints both numbers in the same paragraph. Camden Court goes further and publishes two different occupancies for the same room on two pages of its own website, with its FAQ page returning a 404, so there is no way to settle it without telephoning. And be careful with hotels chosen on appearance: Clontarf Castle is the property families most want to book in Dublin and it publishes nothing whatsoever about who fits in the room. If a hotel does not state a maximum occupancy, the beds in the photograph are a description of the furniture, not a permission to sleep four people in it.

When to book

Family rooms are a small share of stock in every one of these hotels and they are the first category to sell out, so a school-holiday week wants two to three months rather than two to three weeks. The interconnecting rooms at Parnell Square are fourteen out of a large hotel and go earliest of all. If you need the camp bed there, book it as a request at the time of booking rather than on arrival, because the hotel states it is limited to a handful of larger rooms and not guaranteed. St Patrick's week, the late-July and August school holidays and the run of autumn rugby internationals are the three periods when a family of five will find nothing at all in the centre at a sensible rate.
