Family Hotels in Cornwall, Sorted by Childcare, Beds and the Walk to the Sand

These are the family hotels in Cornwall that publish enough on their own websites to plan a holiday around, eleven of them, checked on 3 October 2026. Only two say in writing that their kids club is Ofsted-registered, and at both the childcare is included in the room rate rather than sold by the session. Six publish nothing that resembles a kids club at all, and two restrict the hours children may use the pool. Everything below starts from who sleeps where and what the children actually get, because in Cornwall that varies far more than the sea views do.

Best for a family of four: Watergate Bay Hotel

In Brief

Which family hotels in Cornwall are actually best for children?

Watergate Bay Hotel is the strongest all-round answer: its Kids' Zone is described by the hotel as Ofsted-certified, covers 6 months to 12 years and is included with every stay, the biggest family suites sleep five, and the sand is a measured three minutes away. Fowey Hall is the pick for babies and preschoolers, with an Ofsted-registered club from 3 months that gives each child two free hours for every night booked. For value, SeaSpace at Porth gives you a king bedroom, a bunk room and a kitchen from £179 a night. Skip The Nare and The Headland if childcare is the point, because neither publishes a kids club.

Key takeaways

  • Only two of eleven hotels say in writing that their kids club is Ofsted-registered, and both include it in the stay
  • Bedruthan's creche and kids club are charged per two-hour session, £15 to £20
  • St Michaels Resort and The Atlantic Hotel only let children in the pool in two daytime windows
  • Every hotel here takes dogs except The Carlyon Bay Hotel, which bans them from the premises

Which rooms actually fit your family

Find your party shape along the top, then read down. A tick means the hotel publishes a room that holds that group in one booking. A dash means the hotel does not publish the fact at all, which is not the same as a no, and is why the column exists.

Every tick and figure comes from the hotel's own website or its brand's site, read on 3 October 2026. A dash or an unverified mark means the operator publishes nothing, which is not the same as a no. The five-person column is strict: a tick needs a room the operator says takes five, so The Carlyon Bay Hotel, whose largest rooms are published as sleeping two to four, shows a no, and The Headland, whose family suites have a sofa bed and bunks but no stated occupancy, shows unverified. The connecting column is strict in the same way. Watergate Bay, Fowey Hall, Carlyon Bay, The Headland and The Nare all name interconnecting rooms in writing; nobody else does. Two operators contradict themselves and both versions are recorded on the cards: The Atlantic Hotel's family room says it sleeps four and then says it takes up to three children, and The Nare gives two different outdoor pool seasons on two pages.

These are family facts, and family facts go stale. This table is set for re-verification in April 2027.

What the bands mean

Cornwall's family hotels price in three different ways, which makes a straight comparison harder than it looks. Most sell the room: SeaSpace at Porth publishes a studio from £116, a large studio with a bunk room from £179 and a two-bedroom apartment from £273; Fowey Hall shows its two-bedroom family room from £265 and the sea-view version from £345; The Headland's family suites start at £340 and its interconnecting rooms at £450 a night. Bedruthan's midweek Family Time, You Time break is from £215 a night. The Carlyon Bay Hotel prices per person instead, from £90 per person per night in the February 2027 half term to £195 in the summer holidays, with children 15 and under eating free in every school holiday package. The extra-child charges are where the totals move: Watergate Bay charges each additional occupant aged three and over 25 percent of the double room rate, and Polurrian charges £30 for an extra bed for a child aged 3 to 12. Read the childcare line as well as the room line, because two hotels here include it and one charges £15 to £20 a session.

The 11 hotels, and the room to ask for at each

Walking times are to the nearest beach to each hotel. Measured on 3 October 2026 on OpenStreetMap foot routing, recalculated at 1.25 metres a second, from each hotel's mapped position or its published postcode to the nearest beach. These are road and path routes, not operator figures, except at Polurrian, where the hotel's own FAQ gives a 10-minute walk along the coast path and that figure is used. Cornwall is a county rather than a city, so there is no single landmark to measure against: the useful question for a family is how long the walk is with a bucket, a buggy and a tired four-year-old, and the answer runs from three minutes at Watergate Bay to twenty at Fowey Hall.

  • Wide wet sand at low tide on Watergate Bay beach near Newquay, with the cliffs running north

    Watergate Bay

    Watergate Bay Hotel

    £££
Rated 4.6 out of 5 on Google Maps from 1,499 reviews, as of October 2026
    Best for four

A beach hotel directly above the sand at Watergate Bay, north of Newquay, and the most complete family offer in this set. The Kids' Zone, which the hotel describes as Ofsted-certified, runs toddler sessions from 6 months, kids' sessions for 3 to 8 and an XA Club for 8 to 12, and the hotel says sessions are included with every stay. The 25 metre Swim Club pool has a shallow section for children.

    Room to book
A Best family suite for five, or a standard family suite with its separate bunk room for four
    Children stay free
Children aged 3 to 12 go free sharing a double room with an adult, Sunday to Thursday outside school holidays

    Right for
A family with children anywhere from six months to twelve who want included childcare and the beach on the doorstep.
    Wrong for
Anyone who wants a sea view from the family room, or who needs to keep money back until nearer the date.
    The catch
Most family suites face away from the sea. The hotel's own FAQ says two family suites have partial sea views and the rest are in the coach house at the back with none. Payment is also taken in full at the time of booking, and the XA Club for 8 to 12 year olds runs in school holidays only.
  • The small sandy beach at Readymoney Cove in Fowey, looking out to the mouth of the estuary

    Fowey

    Fowey Hall

    £££
Rated 4.4 out of 5 on Google Maps from 589 reviews, as of October 2026

A Victorian mansion in Fowey run by Luxury Family Hotels, built around under-fives. The Four Bears Den is Ofsted-registered for children from 3 months to 8 years, and each child gets up to two hours of complimentary childcare per day for each night of the stay. Children stay free when sharing with their parents, and the two-bedroom family rooms put the children in their own bedroom.

Parents of a baby or preschooler who want proper Ofsted-registered childcare included in the price.
    Wrong for
Families whose youngest is over eight, who get none of the club.
    The catch
The club stops at 8, so a family with older children is paying for a hotel built around a service they cannot use. The sea-view family room is sold for two adults and three children, yet its published kids' bedroom lists only bunk beds or twin beds, and the hotel does not say where the third child sleeps. The pool also goes adults-only from 3 to 4pm every day.

    Mawgan Porth

    Bedruthan Hotel & Spa

    £££
Rated 4.4 out of 5 on Google Maps from 1,204 reviews, as of October 2026

A long-established family hotel on the cliff at Mawgan Porth, with a path from the garden down to the beach. It publishes the clearest room-by-room occupancy of any hotel here, including apartment suites for two adults and up to four children with their own children's rooms. There is a creche for under-fives, a school-holiday kids club for over-fives, a soft play area included for guests, and indoor and outdoor pools.

    Right for
A big family who want separate children's rooms and a beach at the bottom of the garden.
    Wrong for
Anyone expecting the childcare to be part of the room rate.
    The catch
Childcare is sold by the session, not included: the creche is £15 for a two-hour session for over-2s and £20 for under-2s, and the over-5s kids club is £15 a session. The hotel also says its rooms have no air conditioning, and its rooms page carried a notice of roof maintenance work Monday to Friday when it was read.

    Carlyon Bay, St Austell

    The Carlyon Bay Hotel

A large four-star on the cliff above St Austell Bay with 250 acres of grounds, a golf course, a heated indoor pool and a seasonal outdoor one. In school holidays children 15 and under get free soft drinks, lunches, ice creams and packed lunches, and a free supervised playroom runs from 10am to 6pm every day. Most room types are listed as interconnecting.

    Right for
A family of four who want an old-school resort with food for the children thrown in during school holidays.
    Wrong for
Anyone bringing the dog, and anyone who wants to book online in two minutes.
    The catch
Pets are not allowed anywhere on the premises, the only hotel here with a flat ban. The hotel also prices family holidays per person and asks families to phone or email to book, so that children's places are charged correctly, which makes it the hardest of the eleven to price against the others. No single room is published for five.
  • The long sand of Fistral Beach in Newquay with surfers at the water's edge

    Fistral, Newquay

    The Headland

    ££££
Rated 4.4 out of 5 on Google Maps from 2,515 reviews, as of October 2026

The big red-brick hotel on the headland above Fistral Beach, with six pools in its AquaClub, including a splash pool built for children, and private steps down to the sand. The Minni Parker Best Family Suite has a separate children's bedroom and sleeps four, and the Ocean Family Suites add full-size bunk beds and a sofa bed in the sitting room. Self-catering cottages sit on the headland outside the hotel.

    Right for
A family of four who want Fistral below the window and a pool complex to fill the wet days.
    Wrong for
One parent alone with three young swimmers.
    The catch
There is no kids club or creche on the hotel's family page at all, and the pool rules limit what one adult can do: the hotel's terms require under-16s to be supervised at a ratio of one adult to two children. The Ocean Family Suites put the bunk beds in the sitting room rather than a separate bedroom.

    Carne Beach, Veryan

    The Nare

    ££££
Rated 4.4 out of 5 on Google Maps from 271 reviews, as of October 2026

A country-house hotel directly above Carne Beach on the Roseland, a long, gently shelving south-coast beach with no surf. Several rooms have an en suite cabin room for one or two children, the Melinsey Suite takes a family of up to four, and the Kiberick Suite has an interconnecting door to a single sea-view room. Babysitting and a baby-listening service are run through Reception.

    Right for
Grandparents and grandchildren, or a family with toddlers who want calm water and a quiet beach.
    Wrong for
Parents who want to eat dinner with young children in the main restaurant.
    The catch
The evening is not built for small children. The hotel says children under seven are not expected in the Dining Room in the evening and asks children to respect a dress style that includes jacket and tie. There is no kids club, and the hotel gives two different outdoor pool seasons, heated from May to mid-September on one page and open May to October on another.

A resort hotel moments from Gyllyngvase Beach in Falmouth, with a health club pool, a spa and subtropical gardens. Both family room types put the children in a separate twin-bedded room rather than on a sofa: the Family Room is a king room with a twin room, and the Large Family Suite adds a lounge with a double sofa bed. A full Cornish breakfast is listed as included with every stay.

Children who want to swim whenever they like.
    The catch
Children may only use the pool in two windows a day: 10am to noon and 3 to 6pm Tuesday to Friday, from 10.30am on Mondays, and 9am to noon and 3 to 6pm at weekends. There is no kids club, and no room publishes a maximum occupancy, so whether five may use the Large Family Suite is not stated.

A hotel built in 1892 on the headland above Newquay harbour, with an indoor pool, hot tub, sauna and steam room included for residents. The Sea View Family rooms have dual-aspect windows over the bay and a king bed with up to two extra single beds or cots. Almost every room is dog-friendly.

    Right for
A family of four who want to walk into Newquay and down to the beach without the car.
    Wrong for
Families of five who need the occupancy settled before they pay.
    The catch
The family room page contradicts itself. It says the room sleeps up to four, two adults and two children, then says in a footnote that family rooms can take a maximum of three children. Children may only use the pool from 10am to noon and 3 to 6pm on weekdays, and 9am to noon and 3 to 6pm at weekends, and there is no kids club.

A family who want to cook, keep costs down and still have a pool and a playground on site.
    Wrong for
Anyone with a pushchair on an upper floor, or who wants the room serviced daily.
    The catch
There is no lift, and housekeeping only refreshes the room on stays of more than eight nights, so a week here is self-catering in every sense. The pool rules differ between pages: the FAQ says adults only from 7 to 9am and 7 to 9pm, while the pool page adds a weekday adults-only slot from 12 to 2pm.

A clifftop hotel above Polurrian Cove near Mullion, with an indoor pool and a seasonal outdoor one, a play area, a garden trail and a film room that shows family films in school holidays. Its family rooms take up to five, each with a master bedroom, a separate children's room and a bathroom, and the hotel will set up cots, changing mats and bottle sterilisers before you arrive.

    Wrong for
Anyone who wants a finished hotel this winter.
    The catch
The hotel is part-way through an £11 million redevelopment and says it remains open while the work continues, with the new infinity pool, extra rooms and wellness spaces not due until Spring 2027. Its beach cannot be reached by road, and there is no kids club or creche.

    Wrong for
Parents who want to put the baby down and eat downstairs.
    The catch
The hotel's terms state that baby listening is not available. The rooms with bunk beds are all at the rear of the building with no sea view, check-out is 10am, and the dog rules disagree: the dog page offers several room types, while the hotel terms limit pets to two named rooms.

Where not to book in Cornwall

The commonest mistake in Cornwall is booking a hotel for its family reputation without checking what the childcare actually is. Only Watergate Bay and Fowey Hall say in writing that their club is Ofsted-registered, and both include it in the stay. Bedruthan's creche and kids club are good but are charged at £15 to £20 a session, The Carlyon Bay Hotel's supervised playroom runs in school holidays only, and The Headland, The Nare, St Michaels Resort, The Atlantic Hotel, Polurrian and St Moritz publish no kids club at all. Check the age band too: Fowey Hall's club stops at 8, so a ten-year-old gets nothing from it. The second trap is the pool. St Michaels and The Atlantic only let children swim in two daytime windows, The Headland requires one adult for every two under-16s, and almost every hotel here keeps an adults-only slot in the evening, so the after-tea swim that families plan around is often the one that is closed to them. Finally, do not assume a five-person family fits one room: The Carlyon Bay Hotel tops out at four, The Atlantic Hotel contradicts itself on whether its family room takes a third child, and only Bedruthan, Watergate Bay, Fowey Hall, Polurrian and SeaSpace publish a room or unit for five, plus the self-catering houses at St Moritz.

When to book

School holidays set everything in Cornwall, so pick the week before the hotel. The Carlyon Bay Hotel publishes its family packages by dated school holiday, October half term from 24 October to 1 November 2026, February half term from 13 to 21 February 2027, Easter from 25 March to 10 April 2027 and summer from 1 July to 31 August 2027, and the free children's places change with each one. Minimum stays are lighter than people expect: Watergate Bay only imposes them over Christmas and New Year, Polurrian on some Saturday nights, and Bedruthan on unnamed dates, while St Moritz sells its half-term self-catering houses in seven-night blocks. Deposits vary more: Watergate Bay takes full payment at booking, Polurrian a 30 percent non-refundable deposit and Bedruthan 25 percent, and The Headland's cottages need three months' notice to cancel against two weeks for its hotel rooms. If the beach is the point, note that Watergate Bay's beach is lifeguarded at Easter, in October half term and from May to September, and outside those dates nobody is on duty.

Family hotels in Cornwall: FAQ

The questions parents ask most when booking a room here.

For most families it is Watergate Bay Hotel, because it combines the three things that matter most: childcare included in the stay, rooms that take five, and a beach on the doorstep. Its Kids' Zone runs from 6 months to 12 years, the hotel describes it as Ofsted-certified, its Best family suites sleep up to five, and the sand is a measured three minutes away. If your children are under five, Fowey Hall is the better choice, with an Ofsted-registered club from 3 months and two free hours of childcare per child for every night. If you need space for six, Bedruthan at Mawgan Porth publishes apartment suites for two adults and four children, though its childcare is charged by the session.

It depends on the age of the children and how they like the sea. The north coast around Newquay, Watergate Bay and Mawgan Porth has the big surf beaches, the most family hotels and Cornwall Airport Newquay a ten-minute drive from Watergate Bay by the hotel's own figure, which suits older children and anyone learning to surf. The south coast is calmer: Carne Beach on the Roseland has a very gentle shelf and no surf, Gyllyngvase is a town beach in Falmouth, near its historic harbour, and Fowey Hall describes itself as a short drive from the Eden Project. The Lizard around Mullion is the most remote of these areas, which is the attraction for some families and the problem for others.

Four of the eleven hotels on this page are in or beside Newquay. Watergate Bay Hotel is the best for childcare, with an included Kids' Zone for 6 months to 12 years. The Headland sits above Fistral Beach with six pools including a children's splash pool, but publishes no kids club. The Atlantic Hotel is the one to walk into town from, nine minutes from Towan Beach, with a family room for four. SeaSpace at Porth is the value pick, an aparthotel with kitchens, a pool and playgrounds, where a large studio for two adults, two children and a baby starts at £179 a night.

Of the eleven hotels checked, two say so in writing. Fowey Hall's Four Bears Den is Ofsted-registered for children from 3 months to 8 years, and Watergate Bay Hotel describes its Kids' Zone as Ofsted-certified, with sessions from 6 months to 12 years. Both include the childcare in the stay. Bedruthan's creche is run by what the hotel calls an Enhanced DBS checked team rather than being described as Ofsted-registered, and Carbis Bay's kids club describes DBS-qualified staff but publishes no ages or prices, which is why it is not on this list.

Ten of the eleven. The Carlyon Bay Hotel is the exception and does not allow pets anywhere on the premises. The published charges run from £15 a night for the first dog at SeaSpace to £33 a dog a night at The Headland, with Polurrian, St Michaels, The Atlantic Hotel and St Moritz at £20 and Bedruthan and Fowey Hall at £25. Watergate Bay, Fistral and Mawgan Porth beaches all take dogs year round, while Gyllyngvase in Falmouth restricts them from 10am to 6pm between June and October.
