Family Hotels in Amsterdam, Sorted by Who Gets a Real Bed

Eleven family hotels in Amsterdam were checked against their own websites on 3 October 2026, and six of them put the children in real beds rather than on a sofa bed. Three publish a room for five or more, one caps every room at three, and only four publish lift or wheelchair access, which matters in a city built from canal houses. The picks below start from the room, then the walk.

Best for a family of four: Pulitzer Amsterdam

In Brief

Which family hotels in Amsterdam actually fit a family?

Pulitzer Amsterdam is the most complete answer on the canal ring: a duplex room for four, an interconnecting room for four and two-bedroom suites, with cribs and child extra-bed prices published. For value, Stayokay Amsterdam Vondelpark sells private family rooms for up to six, three minutes from the Vondelpark gate. Avoid Hotel Estheréa for four: every room stops at three.

Key takeaways

  • Six of eleven put children in real beds, three use a sofa bed
  • Three publish a room for five or more: Stayokay, YAYS Maritime and Bunk
  • The 12.5 percent tourist tax is charged on the room, so two rooms means two lots of tax
  • Only four publish lift or wheelchair access to the rooms

Which rooms actually fit your family

Find your party shape along the top, then read down. A tick means the hotel publishes a room that holds that group in one booking. A dash means the hotel does not publish the fact at all, which is not the same as a no, and is why the column exists.

Every tick and figure comes from the hotel's own website or its brand's, read on 3 October 2026. The City of Amsterdam's own site refuses automated access, so the tax rate is read from a dated archive capture of amsterdam.nl taken on 22 September 2026. Park Plaza Vondelpark's brand booking site restricted access, so its cot and lift policies are blank rather than guessed. A dash means the hotel publishes nothing, which is not the same as a no. Two hotels contradict themselves or the map: the Conservatorium's homepage puts the Vondelpark two minutes away and its contact page says ten, while the measured route to the main gate is eight; Hotel Estheréa says Centraal is ten minutes on foot and the measured route is 1,384 metres, about eighteen. The connecting column is strict: a tick means the hotel says in writing that its rooms connect.

These are family facts, and family facts go stale. This table is set for re-verification in April 2027.

Find the row that sounds like your trip. Every pick below names the family it is wrong for, so you can book on fit rather than on rank.

What the bands mean

No hotel here publishes a fixed nightly rate, so the bands below are relative tiers rather than quotes. The tax is the checkable part. The City of Amsterdam sets its tourist tax at 12.5 percent of the overnight price excluding VAT, so it is charged on the room rather than per head: two children in your room add nothing to it, but a family that books two connecting rooms pays it twice. Pulitzer Amsterdam confirms the 12.5 percent is added at check-out, not included in the rate. Breakfast is the other line that moves the total. The Pulitzer buffet is 44 euro a person, Hotel Estheréa charges 24.50 euro, or 19.50 booked direct, and gives children up to 12 breakfast free, and Park Plaza Vondelpark's Family Experience rate includes breakfast for two adults and up to two children aged 12 and under. ibis Amsterdam Centre and Mercure Amsterdam North Station list breakfast as an additional charge. Only one hotel prices a cot, The Manor at 12.50 euro a night, and only the Pulitzer prices an extra bed: 30 euro for a child aged 3 to 12 and 50 euro from age 13, without saying whether that is per night.

Walking times are to The Vondelpark main gate on Stadhouderskade. Measured on 3 October 2026 on OpenStreetMap foot routing from each hotel's published address, then recomputed from the distance at 1.25 metres a second. These are road routes rather than hotel figures, and where a hotel publishes its own figure it is quoted alongside. The first number is the walk to the Vondelpark main gate on Stadhouderskade, the park most Amsterdam families end up in; the second is the walk to Centraal Station, which is where you arrive with the bags. The two Noord hotels get no walking figure at all, because the only way across the IJ on foot is the free ferry, and a route that includes a ferry is not a walk. Their figures are the hotels' own metro and ferry directions.

A five-star spread across 25 restored canal houses on the Prinsengracht and Keizersgracht, and the hotel in Amsterdam that publishes the most ways to sleep a family. There is a 30 square metre Duplex Family Room for four, a 50 square metre Interconnecting Family Room for up to four, a 65 square metre Family Suite with two bedrooms and two bathrooms, and an 85 square metre canal-view suite with a kitchenette. Cribs are on request and the FAQ prices a child's extra bed.

Parents who want a separate bedroom for the children on the canal ring and will pay for it.
    Wrong for
Anyone with a toddler and a pushchair, given the staircase in the duplex and no stated lift.
    The catch
The cheapest family room puts the children's twin beds up a wooden staircase, and the hotel never says its canal houses have a lift: its accessibility statement warns that certain areas may have limited accessibility. The hotel's own directions say construction has stopped trams calling at its nearest stop, Westermarkt, since February 2025, and send you to Dam and a 10-minute walk instead.

A large hostel on Zandpad, next to what the operator calls the main entrance of the Vondelpark, with private family rooms that each have their own shower and toilet. The brand's family room always has two low beds and one or two bunk beds, and this site sells private rooms for up to six. Under-18s are only allowed in private rooms, which is exactly what a family books.

    Wrong for
Anyone staying more than a week, because seven consecutive nights is the limit.
    The catch
It runs as a hostel. You make your own beds from linen handed over at arrival, at least some of the children sleep in bunks, the hostel is cashless, there is no parking, and stays are capped at seven consecutive nights.

Two adults and two younger children who want the park, the museums at a kilometre, and meals sorted.
    Wrong for
A family of five, or anyone arriving by car, since the hotel has no car park.
    The catch
Both children sleep on a sleeper sofa, and the family rate stops at two children aged 12 and under. There is no hotel car park: street parking is 6.75 euro an hour Monday to Saturday or the hotel points you to a garage a 10-minute walk away.

A five-star in a former bank and music school on Paulus Potterstraat, opposite the Stedelijk and a short walk from the Van Gogh Museum and the Rijksmuseum. It sells dedicated connecting options for families, including split-level Junior Suites with two king beds or a king and two twins, and it adds cots and sofa beds to many rooms. Families with museum-age children who want lifts, a pool and the three big museums within minutes.
    Wrong for
Families hoping for an after-school swim, given the tight children's hours.
    The catch
Children aged 3 to 14 may only use the pool from 7 to 10 in the morning and from 2 to 3.30 on Wednesday afternoons, and under-16s are kept out of the sauna and hot tub. No single room is published for four, so the family answer is two connecting rooms, which means the 12.5 percent tax on both.

    Wrong for
A family of four hoping for one room, which the house rules do not allow.
    The catch
No room takes four. The house rules say rooms are for one, two or three guests and that exceeding the number is not permitted, so a family of four books two connecting Luxury rooms, the only category that connects, and pays two room rates and the tax on both.

An aparthotel in a former steam engine factory on the Oostenburgergracht, on the Eastern Islands. It publishes a sleeping count on every unit, which is rare here: a 25 square metre Duplex Studio for four, a 44 square metre Family Apartment for four, and a 37 square metre Duplex One-bedroom for six. Prices are per apartment, whatever the ages.

    Wrong for
Families with a teenager, because the sofa beds are only for children aged 12 or younger.
    The catch
Every family layout uses a sofa bed for the children, and YAYS limits those sofa beds to children aged 12 or younger. In the duplex units one sleeping area is a mezzanine reached by stairs, and no extra beds can be added to any apartment.

    Wrong for
Anyone travelling with a baby, because there are no cots.
    The catch
There are no baby cots or foldaway beds, the hotel says the rooms are quite compact, and rooms are cleaned every third day rather than daily. Every trip into the old city starts with the metro or the ferry.

    Wrong for
Families who want to step out of the door into the canals.
    The catch

Where not to book in Amsterdam

The mistake in Amsterdam is booking a canal house without asking about the stairs. Only four of these eleven hotels publish lift or wheelchair access: Hotel Estheréa, which has two lifts serving every room, the Conservatorium, which says it is largely accessible by lift, and the two brand hotels at Centraal and Noord, which both describe themselves as wheelchair accessible. The Pulitzer's family duplex puts the children up a wooden staircase and the hotel never mentions a lift, and the YAYS duplex units put the main bed on a mezzanine. The second mistake is assuming every family room holds four. Hotel Estheréa caps every room at three by its house rules, and the Linden says no extra beds or people fit in any room, so its four-bed suite is a hard ceiling. The third is assuming a baby is easy: Bunk Amsterdam says it has no cots at all, and only The Manor publishes what one costs. If you are asking where to avoid staying, the honest answer from this set is Noord for anyone who wants to walk into the old city, because there is no walking route across the IJ, and Linnaeusstraat until February 2027 for anyone who minds roadworks outside the door.

When to book

Choose the room shape before the dates. Only three of these eleven hotels publish a room for five or more, so a family of five has the least choice and should book first. Check the cancellation terms before you commit. Park Plaza Vondelpark's Family Experience rate cancels free up to 24 hours before arrival, the Pulitzer's flexible rate until 6pm the day before, The Manor's flexible rate until 16:00 the day before, and Bunk's flexible rate up to 24 hours before, while prepaid rates at the Pulitzer and The Manor are non-refundable. The Pulitzer's Family Adventure offer, which discounts a second room, applies to stays before the end of 2026. If you are staying more than a week, Stayokay is out, because it caps stays at seven consecutive nights.

Family hotels in Amsterdam: FAQ

The questions parents ask most when booking a room here.

Stay by the Vondelpark or Museumplein if the plan is parks and museums, and on the canal ring if it is walking the old city. Stayokay Amsterdam Vondelpark is three minutes from the park's main gate and the Conservatorium is eight, with the big museums close by. On the canal ring, Pulitzer Amsterdam and Hotel Estheréa are 22 and 18 minutes from Centraal. Noord and Oost are cheaper bases that trade the walk for the metro, ferry or tram.

Judged on what the room holds, Pulitzer Amsterdam leads, with a duplex for four, an interconnecting room for four and two-bedroom suites, plus cribs and published extra-bed prices. Stayokay Amsterdam Vondelpark is the value pick, with private rooms for up to six. The Linden Hotel is the best real-bed room for four, with four singles. YAYS Amsterdam Maritime is the pick for six, though its sofa beds are for children aged 12 or younger.

Yes, if you book the room before the romance of a canal house. Six of the eleven hotels checked here put children in real beds and three publish rooms for five or more, but only four publish lift or wheelchair access, and one caps every room at three. The tourist tax helps families: it is 12.5 percent of the room price, so children sharing your room add nothing to it.

Avoid Amsterdam Noord if you want to walk into the old city, because there is no walking route across the IJ and every trip starts with the ferry or the metro. Avoid a canal-house room up a staircase if you have a pushchair: Pulitzer's duplex family room has a wooden stair and no published lift. And avoid assuming a family room takes four, because Hotel Estheréa caps every room at three.
