Boutique Hotels in Antigua, and Who Each One Is Wrong For

Boutique hotels in Antigua rarely charge the price they first show you. Of the twelve small hotels checked here, from Barbuda Belle's eight bungalows to Curtain Bluff's 72 rooms, most quote a rate before 17% government tax and a 10% service charge, a US$5 nightly levy is added for each guest aged six and over, and five publish an annual closure in or around hurricane season. Each one was read on its own website for its room count, its age rule, what the rate includes and when it shuts.

Best all-round: Hermitage Bay

In Brief

Which boutique hotel should I book in Antigua?

Hermitage Bay (€€€€) is the best boutique hotel in Antigua: 30 adults-only villa suites on a west-coast bay, all-inclusive or bed and breakfast, with free transfers on stays of three nights or more. Siboney Beach Club (€) is the value pick: 35 rooms on Dickenson Bay, rates published for every month, children 12 and under free.

Key takeaways

  • Best all-round: Hermitage Bay, closed until 12 October 2026, with 17% tax and 10% service added to the rate
  • Best value: Siboney Beach Club, a Junior Suite from US$225 a night plus tax in September and October
  • Only Cocos and Keyonna Beach put tax and gratuities inside the price; The Escape includes sales tax but not the US$5 levy
  • Five of the twelve publish an annual closure, and Barbuda Belle is shut from 1 June to 1 November every year
  • The calm water is on the west and south coasts: Curtain Bluff says sargassum is localised on the north and east

What the bands mean

Rates are shown as bands, not numbers, because every hotel here sells through a live booking engine. Where a hotel publishes a figure it is used, read on 3 October 2026 in US dollars: Siboney Beach Club lists a Junior Suite at 225 a night plus tax for 1 September to 31 October, Copper and Lumber's own engine quoted 750 for three nights from 20 October plus 232.50 in taxes and fees, Admiral's Inn lists Gunpowder suites from 410 room only, The Inn at English Harbour's engine showed 704 a night excluding taxes and fees, Barbuda Belle lists 990 a night in November and May, Curtain Bluff lists 1,995 for a ground-floor beachfront junior suite from 1 November, and Jumby Bay's offer starts from 2,500. Hermitage Bay, Cocos, Keyonna Beach, Tamarind Hills and The Escape publish no nightly rate on the pages read, so their bands are placed by format and should be checked. Compare like with like: Curtain Bluff, Cocos, Keyonna, The Escape and Jumby Bay sell meals and drinks in the rate, Hermitage Bay sells all-inclusive or bed and breakfast, and the rest are room only or include breakfast.

The 12 hotels, and who each one is wrong for

Walking times are to V.C. Bird International Airport (ANU), by road. No hotel here is a walk from anything a first-time visitor flies in for, so each card gives the transfer from V.C. Bird International Airport as the hotel itself publishes it, by road unless it says otherwise. Where a hotel's own pages give two figures, both are shown. Jumby Bay and Barbuda Belle need a boat or a short flight, and their cards say so. Read on 3 October 2026.

About 45 min (hotel's figure); free private transfers on stays of three nights or more to V.C. Bird International Airport (ANU), by road
    Right for
Couples who want a small all-inclusive with two Michelin Keys, a west-coast bay that the hotel says sees little use by non-residents and, in a pool villa, a pool of their own.
    Wrong for
Families with children under 14. Teenagers aged 14 to 16 are accepted, one per suite, and nobody younger.
    The catch
Rates exclude 17% government tax and a 10% service charge, and cancelling within 30 days of arrival costs 100% of the stay. It is closed until 12 October 2026, and its terms give the standing closure as 31 August to 9 October.

Couples who want a beach, an infinity pool and the English Harbour restaurants without an all-inclusive: the standard rate is breakfast only and includes a daytime water taxi to Nelson's Dockyard.
    Wrong for
Families with children under 10, whom the hotel does not accept, and anyone who wants a bath. Every room has a walk-in shower only.
    The catch
The hotel publishes no tax or service percentages, and its booking engine quotes rates excluding taxes and fees. Its Small Luxury Hotels listing says it closes for the season from July to September.

Anyone who wants to swim from the hotel or cannot manage stairs. The hotel says its own beach is more for unwinding than swimming, and several room types are reached by stairs only.
    The catch
Rates are room only, with 27% government tax and service charge and a US$5 per person nightly levy on top. The property closes for about six weeks from the end of August, and its restaurants reopen on 10 October 2026.

    The catch
On top of 17% ABST and a 10% service charge come the US$5 per person nightly levy and a US$24 per room nightly hotel fee, paid at the hotel. Its booking engine had no rooms for 10 September or 5 October 2026 arrivals and took bookings from 20 October.

    The catch
It shuts for months at a time: its 2026 season table has no dates between 31 May and 1 November, and its rate card states a 2027 closure from 30 May to 23 October. Rates exclude 10% service, 17% government tax and the US$5 levy.

Couples who want to be on the beach rather than above it: the hotel says no unit is more than a minute or two from the shore.
    Wrong for
Solo travellers and groups of friends. The hotel does not take solo guests and may decline bookings of more than two rooms.
    The catch
Its own pages disagree on late cancellation: the policies page charges 100% within 30 days of arrival, the FAQ says 30%. There is no gym, no on-site laundry and no wheelchair access.

    Wrong for
Couples who want a child-free stay. It runs a kids' club and markets itself for multi-generational travel.
    The catch
It is not all-inclusive, so lunch, dinner and drinks are paid as you go, and the grounds also hold villas and condos sold to private owners. Its own blog still gives Antigua's hotel sales tax as 14%.

    Wrong for
Couples who want adults-only. Camp Jumby runs a programme for ages 3 to 12.

    Right for
Anyone who wants the quietest stay on this page, on a separate island a 15-minute flight or a 90-minute ferry from Antigua.
    Wrong for
Anyone travelling between June and October. The hotel closes on 1 June and reopens on 1 November every year.
    The catch
Transfers from Antigua are not included, and rates of US$990 a night in November and May exclude 17% tax and 10% service. No pool is listed.

Where not to book in Antigua

Three things catch people booking a small hotel in Antigua. The first is the coast. The west and south are the calm side: Cocos describes its west-coast beaches as calmer, clearer and free from seaweed, and Curtain Bluff says sargassum is localised on the north and east and has not reached its south-coast beaches. The Escape at Nonsuch Bay, on the east coast, says plainly that sargassum does affect it, and Jumby Bay's Pasture Bay beach takes waves rolling in from the Atlantic. The second is the beach itself: the English Harbour hotels trade sand for history, Copper and Lumber has no beach or pool at all, and Admiral's Inn says its own beach is for unwinding rather than swimming. The third is the hillside. Cocos advises guests with mobility problems not to book, Siboney has no lift, The Escape warns that steps lead to every pool, bar and the beach, and Keyonna is not wheelchair accessible.

When to book

Book around the closures first and the season second. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from 1 June to 30 November, peaking on 10 September, according to the US National Hurricane Center, and that is when the small hotels shut: Hermitage Bay reopens on 12 October 2026, Admiral's Inn's restaurants on 10 October, Curtain Bluff's season resumes on 1 November and Barbuda Belle reopens on 1 November. Over Christmas the minimum stays bite. Curtain Bluff wants seven nights between 20 December 2026 and 3 January 2027 with the balance due by 1 September, Hermitage Bay seven nights from 21 December to 4 January, and Tamarind Hills five nights in its festive season from 18 December. Admiral's Inn asks for a full deposit and 60 days' notice to cancel at Christmas, New Year, Classic Week and Race Week.

Best hotels in Antigua: FAQ

The questions travellers ask most when picking a hotel here.

Hermitage Bay is the strongest all-round pick: 30 villa suites by its own count, adults only, all-inclusive or bed and breakfast, two Michelin Keys and free airport transfers on stays of three nights or more. For less money, Siboney Beach Club on Dickenson Bay has 35 rooms and publishes its rates. For history, Admiral's Inn and Copper and Lumber sit inside Nelson's Dockyard. Each card above names the traveller it is wrong for.

On this page, the top band is Curtain Bluff, a 72-room Relais & Chateaux all-inclusive at Old Road; Hermitage Bay, a Small Luxury Hotels member; Jumby Bay Island, a fully inclusive private island with offers from US$2,500 a night; and Barbuda Belle, eight bungalows on Barbuda from US$990. All four add 17% tax and a 10% service charge to the rate, and Curtain Bluff and Jumby Bay also add the US$5 nightly levy.

Expect 17% government tax and a 10% service charge on top of most quoted rates, plus a Tourism Guest Levy. The Inland Revenue Department's notice sets the levy at US$3 per guest per night for rooms under US$150 and US$5 at US$150 and above, for every guest aged six and over. Cocos and Keyonna Beach include taxes and gratuities in their rates. Copper and Lumber also adds a US$24 nightly hotel fee.

Many small ones are, for part of it. Hermitage Bay's terms give a closure from 31 August to 9 October and it reopens on 12 October 2026. Admiral's Inn closes for about six weeks from the end of August. Curtain Bluff's 2026 season resumes on 1 November, and Barbuda Belle is shut from 1 June to 1 November every year. Siboney Beach Club publishes rates for 1 September to 31 October, so it stays open.

The west and south, which face the Caribbean Sea. Cocos describes its west-coast beaches as calmer, with clearer water and free from seaweed, and Keyonna Beach sits on the calm Caribbean side too. Curtain Bluff says sargassum is localised on the north and east sides and has not reached its south-coast beaches. On the east coast, The Escape at Nonsuch Bay says sargassum does affect the resort.

Yes, and the age rules differ. Cocos, Keyonna Beach and The Escape at Nonsuch Bay accept guests aged 18 and over only, and Cocos and Keyonna take two adults per room, so no solo travellers. Hermitage Bay calls itself adults only but accepts one teenager aged 14 to 16 per suite. The Inn at English Harbour takes children from 10, which keeps it quiet without being adults only.

Curtain Bluff, for a kids' camp for ages 3 to 10 on its calm-water beach, all-inclusive. Siboney Beach Club for a lower budget, since children 12 and under stay free in their parents' suite. Tamarind Hills for villas with kitchens and private pools, and Jumby Bay Island for a private island with a programme for ages 3 to 12. Avoid Cocos, Keyonna Beach, The Escape and Hermitage Bay, which do not take young children.

You fly into Antigua first, because Barbuda is a separate island. From there it is a 15-minute flight or about 1 hour 30 minutes by sea, according to Barbuda Belle, which lists daily flights from V.C. Bird International at 7:15 am and 4 pm. Once on Barbuda the hotel is reached only by boat, and its transfers from Codrington are included, though transfers from Antigua are not.
